Regional Field Director

Location: Boston, MA

Position Description: Regional Field Directors (RFDs) are the face of ServiceNation in the field and responsible for building, developing, and organizing ServiceNation's grassroots and grasstops leaders in key congressional districts and states across the country.  S/he will organize and mobilize advocates at key moments throughout the year to take action for ServiceNation around core campaigns. RFDs are politically savvy, experts on the politics of their region, and will cultivate relationships with key members of Congress and staff. S/he will also help to raise public awareness of national service through creative programming at the local level and the implementation of national campaigns on the ground.

Responsibilities will include, but not limited to:

  • Work with the Director of Grassroots Movement Building to develop and implement a region-specific campaign plan based on ServiceNation's core campaigns with a heavy emphasis on long term organizing and grassroots/grass tops leadership development
  • Build and develop a robust volunteer leadership organization in key states and congressional districts. This includes but is not limited to recruiting and maintaining: volunteer leaders; volunteer leadership teams, a reliable core of volunteers in each targeted district; support outreach to faith leaders and other partners; a grass tops/influential network, and others as may be necessary
  • Conduct regular face to face interactions with grass tops and volunteer leaders
  • Conduct trainings and provide ongoing support for volunteer leadership development
  • Cultivate relationships with target members of Congress and staff
  • Ensure regular delivery of targeted messages/interactions with members of Congress and other national leaders through letters, phone calls, social media, in-person meetings and intercepts, letters to the editor, and blog posts
  • Promote the ServiceNation brand and agenda through planning of events at the local level as well as working with leadership on the ground to be visible at high profile events throughout the region with ongoing use of social media and other targeted communications strategies
  • Provide detailed reporting of happenings and deliverables in the region through weekly reporting, regular blog posts, and team calls and meetings
  • Raise awareness of national service in your region; connect young people to service year opportunities

Minimum Qualifications:

  • An unrelenting belief that national service can transform individuals, communities, and the nation
  • Four + years' work experience, at least 2 working with on-the-ground political campaigns or issue advocacy
  • Experience recruiting, leading and motivating a diverse group of volunteers
  • Strong public speaking and training experience
  • Excellent written and verbal English communication skills
  • Team-player with excellent interpersonal and collaboration skills
  • Dream up ideas and execute them regularly
  • Know how to win in politics, especially through grassroots organizing
  • Significant comfort level with social media and technology
  • Ability to report work product accurately using both metrics, written, oral, and visual mediums
  • Ability to travel frequently to priority districts (25-50% of the time), additional travel to meet campaign-specific needs, and HQ planning meetings when required
