Texas is the biggest battleground state in the country, and Texas Democrats are poised to win. The polls are showing Donald Trump loses to a Democratic champion and we are in a dead heat for the United States Senate.
The TDP is seeking a top-tier, self-motivated, and innovative Organizing Director who will be responsible for creating a strategic field plan (in collaboration with party and political leadership), building an ambitious volunteer development program, and executing a massive statewide voter turnout operation. This person will work closely with the political, data, and training departments to develop and execute 2019 and 2020 programs.
Duties include but are not limited to:
- Developing a volunteer-driven voter contact program that supports electoral efforts up-and-down-the-ballot
- Training, managing, and supporting a team of regionally distributed organizers and managers dedicated to expanding our volunteer base capacity
- Training, managing, and supporting a special team of organizers focused on registering, training, and mobilizing core Democratic constituencies
- Fostering an organizational culture of accountability, sustainability, respect, and excellence
- Working collaboratively with other senior staff to ensure all departments are creating something greater than the sum of its parts
Requirements include:
- Three cycles of organizing experience (electoral, advocacy, political or union organizing)
- At least two years of experience managing staff
- Superior project management skills, including effective task delegation and tracking, and familiarity with collaborative task management tools
- Demonstrated history of excellent staff management, including staff training
- Proficiency with voter registration efforts, base-vote and get-out-the-vote drives
- Ability to communicate priorities, needs and expectations up and down the chain of command
- Strong lateral management skills
- Proficiency with organizing tools, including Votebuilder/VAN, MobilizeAmerica, and / or texting platforms
- Strong interpersonal skills and ability to effectively and clearly communicate with different types of stakeholders, from high level elected officials to grassroots activists
- An absolute commitment to complete the 2020 cycle at the Texas Democratic Party
Preferred background and experience:
- Experience organizing in communities of color and/or non-English-speaking communities
- Leadership position within a state party
- Texas ties and / or battleground state experience
