Independent Expenditure Political Assistant
End Citizens United's Mission: To fix our democracy by getting big money out of politics and protecting the right to vote. We will work to end our rigged political system by electing reform champions, passing meaningful legislative reforms, and elevating these issues in the national conversation. We will work in partnership with these champions to overturn Citizens United, end the unlimited and undisclosed money in politics, and protect and expand the right to vote.
Reports to: Vice President for Independent Expenditures
Job Summary: The IE Political Assistant is an integral part of ECU's Independent Expenditure team. Involved in all aspects of the Independent Expenditure, this position provides an excellent opportunity for professional growth to the right candidate. The IE Political Assistant will have the opportunity to join a collaborative, fast-paced environment in which they work closely with and learn from ECU's talented staff. This staffer will be essential to the Independent Expenditure's ability to run an effective, successful program in the 2020 cycle.
Primary Responsibilities
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
Tracking news to keep the Independent Expenditure team up to date, and updating members of the Independent Expenditure teams as needed;
Assisting the Vice President with all operational aspects of the Independent Expenditure;
Drafting political memos for internal and external use;
Providing research assistance and capacity to the Independent Expenditure Research Director; and
Supporting the Vice President with scheduling, meeting planning, event preparation, office logistics, and other tasks as assigned.
Qualifications
Committed to stopping Big Money in politics and protecting the right to vote, and to electing and supporting campaign finance reform and voting rights champions at all levels of office;
Dedicated to the diversity of our candidates, membership, partners, and staff;
1-2 cycles campaign experience is highly preferred;
Self-starter who can work independently, but who thrives in collaborative team environments;
Strong organization skills and attention to detail -- willing to do the work to get things right the first time;
Flexibility and willingness to learn in a fast-paced environment; and
Strong problem-solving skills and ability to think on one's feet.
