ABOUT THIS OPPORTUNITY
The Intercept (a project of the nonprofit First Look Media Works) seeks two or three freelance contractors with experience in small-donor email fundraising to draft emails for Giving Tuesday and end-of-year fundraising.
We have significant email fundraising capacity (both in-house and with our existing email fundraising consultant). But we are looking for additional capacity both because we plan on sending an increased volume of emails in December (approximately 12-15) and because we want to test multiple narrative options to ensure each send is optimized before it goes to our full list.
Here are the three things we're looking for each of the contractors to do:
Become familiar with our fundraising goals, our political ethos and our editorial voice and tone. (Note: Here are a few prime examples of our fundraising emails to help you get a sense of this.)
Help us finalize our email calendar. We already have a direction for our email calendar, including a number of content tests we'd like to run in December. But we are looking for help from contractors that includes:
Proposing angles for our fundraising emails that will be timely, relevant and appropriate for the political zeitgeist when they'll be sent; and
Identifying and helping us take advantage of any rapid response fundraising opportunities during this time period.
Craft compelling copy for emails for December 2020 that mobilizes our email subscribers to support our independent, adversarial journalism. We do not anticipate any one contractor drafting more than 4-8 emails.
Additionally, while it's not a necessary part of the scope of work, we would be willing to pay a contractor who has production experience in ActionKit to do that kind of production work for these emails.
While we are open to various fee structures, we are anticipating each contract (inclusive of all work) will work out to roughly $400-800 per email draft depending on the experience of the contractor and the exact scope of work.
We are happy to consider applicants at various levels of seniority, but experience drafting emails (or other extended copy) for a digital fundraising program is required. In addition, we'd be especially interested in applicants who have experience working with digital media publishers and/or values-aligned nonprofits or political organizations.
HOW TO APPLY
We will be reviewing proposals on a rolling basis, and aim to be in-contract with the contractors no later than 11/24. To that end, we encourage those interested to submit proposals ASAP and no later than 11/15.
People interested in submitting a proposal should include the information listed below in a single PDF document and submit it at this link.
Your proposal should be a single PDF document containing:
Your resume, CV, LinkedIn profile or the equivalent.
A brief letter of interest (2 pages max) that describes:
Your desired scope of work.
Your desired fees and fee structure.
Why you think you'd be successful in this role.
Any similar projects you've done.
Any significant restrictions on your time/availability through the end of 2020 (if applicable).
Contact information for at least two previous clients and/or employers .
At least two samples of past fundraising emails you've written.
Please Note: We may ask select candidates to complete a writing exercise before making a final selection. Candidates who are asked to complete this exercise will be compensated for their time, up to $300.
