United Food and Commercial Workers International Union Local 1000, (UFCW Local 1000) a powerful voice for working men and women, is seeking Service Representatives at various levels for the Dallas-Fort Worth area to give workers a voice in the workplace. UFCW is one of the most progressive unions leading the fight to build worker power in our workplaces, communities and the political and legislative arenas to insure that workers and their families participate fully in the rewards of the economy they help sustain.
Responsibilities:
The Union Representative has the overall responsibility of building local union capacity and empowering current membership through internal organizing, grievance handling and resolution, and member development programs. This position also has the responsibility of carrying out the union's vision for building strength and achieving growth by organizing new members, participating in political and community action, etc.
Qualifications:
We are hiring service representatives with various levels of experience. A demonstrated commitment to social justice work is required. This is a full time job with some travel requirements, irregular hours and relocation to Dallas Ft. Worth area. Valid driver's license and the ability to drive a car are required. In some circumstances, foreign language skills are required; bilingual English/Spanish and other languages is a plus.
Labor experience is a plus, but is not mandatory. If you have skills or experience through political, legislative, student activist, social justice, community or other union campaigns that is a plus.
Skills
- Willingness to work long hours, nights, and weekends.
- Strong commitment to social justice and building the labor movement.
- Ability to work well with a wide variety of diverse people.
· Must be able to organize his or her time effectively, and develop and carry out plans with minimal supervision.
- Leadership skills to educate and motivate members.
- Ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously.
- Ability to exercise sound judgment in complex situations.
- Strong public speaking skills.
- Knowledge of or ability to acquire computer and mobile technology skills (iPads, iPhones)
- Fluency in Spanish language is a plus.
- Understanding of retail and grocery worker experience is a plus.
- Working knowledge and understanding of collective bargaining.
