Ward 8  - D.C. Council Campaign - Fellowships


 

 

Now Available for Spring 2015

 

Fellows with the Ward 8 D.C. City Council Campaign are a great opportunity for hard-working individuals to gain political experience, develop a fuller understanding of the political process, and help make a difference in Washington, D.C. By applying for an internship with the D.C. City Council campaign, you can learn the ins and outs of political campaigns.

 

Fellows are available in a variety of departments, allowing each fellow to focus on specific areas within the campaign. We are looking for responsible, hard-working individuals to produce high-level work in each of these focus areas. Fellowships are paid. ($250/month)

 

 

Fellowship Focus Areas:

Fellows with the campaign focus on one or more of the following areas:

§  Communication and Research

§  Political Organizing

§  Finance, Fundraising and Event Planning 

 

 

All Fellows must assist in the field activities. Applicants may express interest in multiple departments. Descriptions of each of these fellowship focus areas can be found on the following page.

 

 

Fellowship Qualifications:

 

Qualified interns should Be…

1.      Interested in politics and consider themselves a Democrat

2.      Dependable, detail-oriented and able to work independently in a fast-paced working environment

3.      Available to work at least 10 hours each week Sunday through Saturday with priority given to applicants who can work more hours.  (3 hrs. must be on Saturday)

4.      Able to commit 3 months to the Fellowship program beginning in February through the April 28 Special Election.

Communications Fellow – Communications and Research

Communication Fellows will work with the Communications team to research and fact-check information for blog posts, Web features, and Web ads. These Fellows will save and file press clips, talking points, and other press releases.  These Interns will also monitor press, Twitter updates, and blog posts and update press lists as necessary. Knowledge and/or experience in journalism, as well as traditional and new media is preferable. Interns will also be charged with writing articles in favor of our candidates and against the opposition.

 

 

 

Organizing Fellow – Political Organizing

Political Fellows will work closely with candidates and elected officials on campaigns, events and scheduling. They will also be an integral part of the campaign's field activities by helping with the planning of lit drops, phone banks, and building crowds for events, as well as assisting in candidate recruitment and building relationships with supporters.

 

 

 

Finance Fellow –  Finance, Fundraising and Event Planning

Finance Fellows will be responsible for assisting the Finance team with numerous tasks including: donor research and prospecting, staffing and planning fundraising events, and participating in donor outreach. Fellows will get first-hand experience in planning campaign events, learning fundraising methods, cultivating donor relationships and using campaign finance software.
