The Center for Gun Responsibility (CGR) is seeking a dynamic, proven leader to serve as Executive Director. Responsibilities include legislative advocacy to reduce gun violence, public education, media outreach, fundraising, and membership development. Strong communication skills are essential. A broad understanding of firearm policy issues is desirable. Salary and benefits are negotiable and commensurate with experience. ABOUT THE CENTER FOR GUN RESPONSIBILITY

The goal of the Center for Gun Responsibility (CGR) is to reduce gun violence in Washington State and across the nation. The Center is a research, advocacy, and public engagement organization that partners with individuals and organizations that share our goal. We focus on finding and implementing the most effective and comprehensive projects, programs and policies that prevent gun violence and promote gun responsibility. The Center:

  1. Advocates for and implements state and local policies that will significantly reduce gun violence;
  2. Builds the capacity of the gun violence prevention movement in Washington State and beyond;
  3. Engages the public directly to raise awareness on the issues;
  4. Works with public health and public safety officials to inspire safer attitudes and behaviors around guns; and
  5. Conducts and aggregates original research to best understand the causes and effects of gun violence and the best strategies to promote gun responsibility.

ABOUT THE POSITION

The Executive Director (ED) serves as leader for the Center's work for gun violence prevention, implementing organizational strategy and tactics, facilitating board development, overseeing the annual program, managing the annual budget, raising resources, supervising staff and consultants, and serving as the primary spokesperson for the organization. Reporting to the Board of Directors, the ED will ensure that the organization is effective in its work, fiscally sound, and that its internal and external communications, fund development, and work plans fulfill the organizational mission.

In program development, communication and administration, the Executive Director will:

  • Assure that the organization achieves a long-range strategy which fulfills its mission,
  • Provide leadership in developing program, organizational and financial plans with the Board of Directors and staff, and carry out plans and policies affirmed by the board.
  • Build the gun violence prevention movement by promoting active and broad participation by volunteers in all areas of the organization's work.
  • Maintain a working knowledge of significant developments and trends in the issue field
  • Connect with local and national stakeholders regularly and serve as a leader in the gun violence prevention movement.
  • Represent the programs and point of view of the organization to agencies, organizations, and the general public.
  • Be responsible for the recruitment, employment, retention and release of all personnel, both paid staff, consultants, and volunteers.
  • Cultivate an excellent staff, ensuring that employee skills are developed, that regular performance evaluations are held, and that sound human resource practices are in place.
  • Maintain a climate which attracts, keeps, and motivates a diverse staff of top quality people.
  • Develop and maintain sound financial practices.
  • Work with the staff, finance consultants, and the board in preparing and implementing an annual budget that ensures a sustainable future for the organization.

SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS:

The Executive Director should have the following:

  • Minimum of 5 years of professional experience as an executive leader or executive director.
  • Bachelors degree at a minimum, Master's preferred;
  • Proven managerial, problem-solving, strategic planning, fund development, marketing and fundraising experience in the nonprofit sector;
  • Credibility and experience to connect the CGR to resources and opportunities outside the organization;
  • A successful track record in creating and implementing programs;
  • Experience creating and sustaining partnerships and collaborations;
  • Experience with fundraising;
  • History of effective written and verbal communication, including excellent public speaking skills;
  • The ability to effectively represent the CGR to a broad public.
  • Candidates for the role of ED should have strong interpersonal skills, experience meeting deadlines, and the ability to manage many tasks and staff simultaneously.
  • Candidates who excel at building sustainable movements are encouraged to apply.
  • A passion for gun violence prevention or a personal relationship to the issue of gun violence is preferred in this role.
  • The ideal candidate will have experience in constituent relations and partner work
  • Strong experience with common office tools such as Microsoft Office suite, Google calendar, etc. is required
  • Access to a vehicle and a valid driver's license.
