The Campaign to Save the Boundary Waters

 

Northeastern Minnesotans for Wilderness seeks to hire a Northeast Minnesota Campaign Organizer for the Campaign to Save the Boundary Waters. The Campaign to Save the Boundary Waters is a local, state, and national Campaign to prevent sulfide-ore copper mining in the watershed of the Boundary Waters Canoe Area Wilderness.

 

Northeast Minnesota Campaign Organizer: Duties and Responsibilities

 

·       The Northeast Minnesota Campaign Organizer will work with key stakeholders from the Wilderness Edge communities and Campaign to Save the Boundary Waters to manage  Sustainable Ely Education Center, a converted Victorian house located in downtown Ely, MN on Sheridan Street. This involves recruiting, training, and supporting volunteers and college interns. The Organizer is responsible for activities such as educational programs, citizen science, displays and local outreach.

·       Develop and execute plans to drive local residents and visitors to the Sustainable Ely Education Center and engage them with the Campaign to Save the Boundary Waters.

·       Will work with the State Director to develop, execute, and lead outreach plans for various constituency groups in Northeast Minnesota, including but not limited to: Wilderness Edge Residents, Wilderness Edge Businesses, Home/Lake Associations, property owners, and other interest groups.

·       Will carry out numerous outreach projects as assigned by the State Director. Including but not limited to: Volunteer phonebanks, campus outreach, the Bike Tour to Save the Boundary Waters and other events, constituent group outreach, volunteer leadership development, database management, etc.

·       Organize the logistics for and represent the Campaign at visibility opportunities in wilderness edge communities.

·       Assist with maintaining organizational systems like meeting calendars, agendas, notes and goals.

·       Work with the State Director to achieve our outreach goals and track and manage supporters in our databases

·       The Northeast Minnesota Campaign Organizer will report directly to the State Director and will be a key member of the Campaign to Save the Boundary Waters staff.

·       Work with campaign staff and Board on all aspects of the overall campaign plan. Including local/state/federal strategic planning, communications, public outreach, and fundraising.

·       This position will be located in Ely, MN with the potential for housing at Sustainable Ely.  

·       The Northeast Minnesota Campaign Director position is a full time salaried position with the Northeastern Minnesotans for Wilderness an IRS recognized 501c3 organization.

 

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

 

·       Bachelor's degree or equivalent professional experience

·       Excellent oral and written communication skills

·       Experience in public lands, conservation, and/or political campaigns

·       Highly organized and attentive to detail

·       Team leadership skills

·       Ability to work independently

·       Willingness and ability to travel

·       Passion for protecting the Boundary Waters Canoe Area Wilderness and the Quetico-Superior ecosystem 

Ideal candidate will have personal experience in the BWCAW and/or other Wilderness areas.

·       Trustworthy

·       Ambitious and takes initiative; not wedded to working 9 to 5

 

COMPENSATION:

 

·       Compensation for the Northeast Minnesota Campaign Director includes a competitive salary and an excellent package of health and other employee benefits.
