[jobsthatareLEFT] Fight Corporate Corruption: Digital Campaigner US PIRG (Denver, CO)

Description: Macintosh HD:Users:karacook:Desktop:USP-c4-WebLogo_0.png    Digital Campaigner - Denver, CO

U.S. Public Interest Research Group (U.S. PIRG) is hiring a digital campaigner with sharp writing skills, savvy strategic ability, and a talent for using social media. The campaigner will help us design and win our tax & budget campaign—our nationwide effort that ensures big companies pay their fair share in taxes, just like the rest of us.  The nation's largest companies, like BP and Exxon, have armies of lobbyist at their disposal, trying to make sure that doesn't happen. We have young, talented, passionate advocates—people like you—to make sure they do.

Tax and budget decisions define the type of country we want to live in. Decisions about who pays how much, and where the money goes, say a lot about our national values. Do you want to live in a country where the corporate elite evades responsibility for helping meet our societal needs, or do you want to live in a country that a value shared economic responsibility and promotes fairness. If it's the later, than this opportunity is for you.

Tax and budget decisions, while not always on the front page, are the most concrete way that communities declare priorities and balance competing values.  Unfortunately, government decisions about how to raise revenue and support public functions often fail to best advance the public interest.

It is not possible to ensure that government decisions are fair and efficient unless information is publicly accessible.  Transparency is key to reform.  Likewise, public officials and private companies that receive contracts and subsidies must be held to task for their actions.

We are looking for a young professional or recent college graduate who is ready to turn their online skills into political action. We're looking for people with passion for the issues who are eager and ready to learn new skills, are willing to work hard, and who won't be satisfied until they accomplish meaningful change that will help real people. In today's digital world, no advocacy effort is complete without a significant online presence. People today turn to the web for their information, they turn to the web to learn about issues, and they turn to the web to take action. Your efforts will be key to any successful campaign. Get great experience, be part of a team, and change the world.

You:

o   Are passionate about political issues and want to see companies pay the same taxes as the rest of us;

o   Can write persuasively and boil complex issues down to a single sentence;

o   Have an opinion about what works online and can point to examples to back it up;

o   Are excited to learn new tools and aren't afraid of HTML;

o   Have an opinion about political issues, want to make a difference, and are excited about calling out special interests standing in the way;

o   Have built something from scratch;

o   Sweat the details.

Your Job:

o   Collaborate with other digital organizers on our team, who are working on other issues;

o   Write emails and campaign actions that you'll send to hundreds of thousands of supporters;

o   Design and curate content for social media, and engage with our national community;

o   Coordinate with our field team of five to nine campaign organizers, and back them up with emails, web pages and digital strategy;

o   Develop partnerships and creative online tactics to build our audience and raise money;

o   Analyze the results of your work, and report on successes and failures;

o   Keep your projects on track, hold people accountable to their deliverables, and communicate regularly with your team.
