Title: LCV Iowa Field Director               Status: Exempt

Reports To: National Field Director

Positions Reporting To This Position: Regional Field Directors, Field Organizers

General Description:
LCV works to turn environmental values into national, state and local priorities. LCV, in collaboration with our state LCV partners, advocates for sound environmental laws and policies, holds elected officials accountable for their votes and actions, and elects pro-environment candidates who will champion our priority issues. 

LCV is hiring an Iowa Field Director to lead its Iowa field activities, overseeing the engagement of LCV members as volunteers and activists with a particular focus on engaging college students and 22 to 29 year olds in issue advocacy, earned media and grassroots lobbying activities.  Issue focuses will be on building support for reducing carbon emissions, encouraging executive action to clean up coal fired power plants and raising awareness about the need to address climate change.  The field director will serve as the campaign division's lead field staffer in-state and will be responsible for opening field offices, hiring organizers and overseeing volunteer mobilization.  The field director will work with the in-state leadership team to build relationships with environmental groups and community leaders.  The field director will work closely with the national campaigns team and report to LCV's national field director.

Responsibilities:
Manage regional lead organizers and provide them with the training and tools necessary to successfully manage and train field organizers and campus organizers.
Oversee administrative aspects of the field program, including recruiting, hiring and training organizers as well as tracking organizer hours and pay.
Ensure that all volunteer outreach and engagement is meticulously tracked in VAN and reports are submitted daily.
Develop earned media strategy to garner support and attention for environmental issues.
Create campus organizing plans to increase renewable energy use and divest from coal, oil and gas.
Coordinate event logistics, planning and execution with regional lead organizers.
Develop relationships with environmental and other progressive leaders in the community and engage them in field events and activities.

Program: This position is temporary and lasts through 12/31/2015.  Possible extension based on funding. 

Qualifications:
Candidate must have enthusiasm and an interest in environmental activism 
3+ years community, issue, labor, or political organizing  (3-5 cycle equivalent) 
Fluency in VAN, Microsoft Office Suite; other field tools a plus
Must possess strong written and oral communication skills 
Ability to prioritize and effectively manage multiple tasks in a fast paced work environment
Required to work beyond standard office hours and Saturdays
Have your own reliable transportation
