Early Childhood Training Center Developer/Coordinator


This position could be based in Los Angeles, CA or the San Francisco Bay Area , CA

 

Background:

 

SEIU is embarking on an exciting project designed to improve education and training levels among the early learning workforce in California and to strengthen and promote diverse delivery in all CDE-funded child care programs. This matters to the early learning professionals in a variety of settings that we represent, many of whom struggle to access affordable, relevant training and education opportunities to help them do their work more effectively or advance to higher skill, better paying jobs. It also matters to the tens of thousands of parents we represent that work in numerous professions and even more parents in our communities who are united in their deep concern that their children's early learning be high quality, meet their families' needs and schedules, and prepare their children to succeed in school.

 

Overall Responsibilities:

 

The ideal candidate is someone with a background in early child hood education and workforce development, program design, development and implementation who can

lead SEIU's strategic thinking on the overall development and implementation of the training center in conjunction with the CA Child Care Campaign, SEIU Locals, SEIU National ECE Staff and communicates this vision.

 

Candidate must be committed to: building long-term power for working class people; creating a just and humane society; and dedicated to a pro-worker, learner-centered, supportive environment.

 

The areas of work include:

 

Cultivate collaborative partnerships

  • Build, organize and sustain cross-sector collaborative partnerships with diverse stakeholders focused on improving outcomes for the ECE workforce and the children they serve
  • Develop legislative proposals (in collaboration with the SEIU State Council)  that help advance the vision of the training center
  • Build credibility in the ECE community as an effective partner for training while continuing long term relationships established through Raising California Together.
  • Identify partners for the Training Center through existing relationships with Raising CA Together and expands upon those to include key State Agencies, existing CA funded training programs, UC's, CSU's and Community College ECE Programs, AP's, R&R's, Advocates, Academics and Providers as well as partners at the Division of Apprenticeship Standards, WIB, ETP, etc
  • Lead interactions on the training center through convening stakeholders, providers, meeting with funders, policy makers and agencies
  • Develop and support complex, multi-organization partnerships (colleges, employers, labor unions, community orgs, government agencies, etc)
  • Work with locals to implement components of the Training Center programs including recruitment programs that include ways to evaluate providers most prepared to succeed.
  • Equip local unions to work with providers and center workers to identify major gaps in CA training programs and providers' priority needs, barriers to achieving those needs

 


ECE workforce development expertise

  • Revamp the CA child care apprenticeship with an eye to how that apprenticeship links into the overall training program.   Determine how this can be integrated with a competency-based bachelors degree
  • Identify federal and industry trends to evaluate policy and program opportunities such as CCDBG re-authorization that advance the goals of the center.
  • Help develop career pathways and supporting curriculum for those pathways
  • Develop curriculum across a variety of training settings, including in-person group classes, online, through tutors, coaches and mentors, etc. with an eye towards policy trends that will affect workers
  • Possess experience/knowledge of train-the-trainer and peer mentorship models
  • Possess experience in serving ESL populations and workers in isolated professions/those who have traditionally been excluded from pathways to advancement

Fund development

  • Identifies and captures revenue sources from government, foundation and private funding sources
  • Cultivates and maintains relationships with foundations, corporations and individuals to aid in resource development

General program management/evaluation

  • Develops budgets and manages financial resources
  • Develops public communications pieces about the training center including recruitment and other marketing materials.
  • Develops program assessment tools and evaluates and adjusts programs in response to those assessments
