SUMMARY DESCRIPTION:
The Direct Marketing team is responsible for building the organization's optimal long-term donor value by developing strategies and programs that increase individual donor engagement, financial revenue, and fundraising capacity for Greenpeace, USA. The team focuses on marketing to individual donors via Direct Response and digital channels (e.g. direct mail, email, phone, mobile, etc.) to engage constituents and to raise revenue to support the mission of Greenpeace in the US and Internationally.
The Direct Marketing Associate position reports to the Direct Marketing Manager and is centered on delivering best in class direct mail, telemarketing, and email fundraising initiatives to a core donor audience on behalf of Greenpeace, USA. This position is an exciting opportunity to develop subject matter expertise in the science of marketing with a focus on donor segmentation and content optimization through initiatives including donor renewal, retention upgrades, Compass magazine, acknowledgements, and other cultivation and emergency appeals. This position will work across all development programs (Annual Giving, Major Gifts, Planned Giving, and our Canvass team).
RESPONSIBILITIES:
· Manage the strategy and production of the mail and online versions of the (Quarterly) Compass Magazine and acknowledgement programs.
· Develop and manage the budget for the Compass Magazine and acknowledgement programs.
· Works in collaboration with the Direct Marketing Manager to execute strategy for monthly e-renewal series.
· Manage, in coordination with Direct Marketing Manager, the e-renewal series (strategy, copy, design, and data).
· Write compelling email copy that engages Greenpeace's various donor groups to give money; code and test the emails using our CRM to ensure they are of the highest quality and mistake-free, and create the groups who will be receiving each email based on the identified campaign strategy.
· Track and evaluate Compass Magazine, acknowledgements, and e-renewal program performance against budget and prior years.
· Ensure the smooth operation of the direct mail production of all direct marketing fundraising programs
· Develop and manage the direct marketing production schedule; and production plans
· Manage external vendor relationships and coordinate with internal teams to ensure mail, telemarketing, and email deadlines are met
· Request and analyze bids for direct marketing projects; develop and manage project cost estimates and data processing instructions for all programs
· Work with the finance department to ensure proper allocation of department funds and payment of invoices
· Review and approve proofs, data scans, and laser setups for accuracy during all stages of the production process
· Proofread copy; work with external designers to create and traffic art proofs for the direct marketing team
· Work with the internal data department to ensure the accuracy of data, and the smooth transfer of data to external vendors
· Act as the liaison with supporter care team on escalated donor issues and other fundraising questions, bringing these issues to the Direct Marketing Manager when applicable.
· Perform other job related duties as requested or assigned by the direct marketing team.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Skills:
· Excellent verbal and written communication skills; mathematically-minded
· Positive attitude and excellent interpersonal skills
· Ability to manage multiple projects efficiently, and to meet strict deadlines
· Critical thinking skills
· Basic understanding of digital communications technology (i.e. social media platforms, basic content management systems, CRM's, SMS, and web management) and techniques
· A self-starter who is a good problem solver, very organized, with strong attention to detail
· Proficiency in Excel, Word, e-mail, and database programs
· Basic proofreading skills
· Basic background in statistical analysis
· Spanish Language skills a plus
EXPERIENCE/ACCOMPLISHMENTS:
· Experience in fundraising, direct marketing production, or nonprofit work
· Strong interest in environmental issues
