WANTED: FIELD ORGANIZER
Title: Field Organizer
Location: Portland, Oregon, with ability to travel statewide (average of 2-3 nights away per week)
Overview of position: Oregon Climate is a volunteer-driven startup nonprofit that empowers Oregonians to win fair and effective climate policy. We educate and organize voters, organizations, and decision-makers in support of polluter accountability policy that directly benefits all Oregonians. We believe our great state can lead the country with climate legislation that is scientifically-grounded and socially inclusive in order to power a just, swift, and lasting transition to a new economy.
We are currently seeking a full-time field organizer to strengthen grassroots support for the "carbon price and dividend" policy. Responsibilities include a blend of communications (written and spoken), creative organizing, and development work. The Oregon Climate team is creative, bold, and collaborative. We welcome a hardworking new teammate who's passionate about robust climate action and ready for an ever-evolving role in statewide civic leadership.
Responsibilities:
- Implement Oregon Climate's state field plan;
- Conduct outreach to diverse constituencies through presentations, one-on-ones, and community events;
- Recruit, train, and coordinate volunteer leaders;
- Generate public awareness of climate change, energy economics, and carbon pricing through traditional and social media;
- Hit monthly benchmarks including membership recruitment and leadership activation;
- Assist with office duties as-needed.
Qualifications:
- Commitment to Oregon Climate's mission;
- Positive, energetic attitude and a strong belief in the power of grassroots organizing;
- Experience (as volunteer or staffer) delivering results in a campaign environment;
- Ability to meet deadlines and work quickly and cooperatively under pressure;
- Excellent writing, speaking, and interpersonal skills;
- Willingness to travel and work irregular hours (nights and weekends);
- Digital organizing and web savvy a plus;
- Conversational Spanish a plus.
Salary: Commensurate with relevant experience.
