Manager, State Engagement and Development

EMILY's List, the nation's largest financial resource for women candidates, is searching for a Manager, State Engagement and Development to join our Campaigns team. Throughout its 30 year history, the organization has recruited and trained over 9,000 women to run, worked to elect 110 pro-choice Democratic women to the House, 19 to the Senate, 11 governors, and over 700 women to state and local office. EMILY's List has also helped elect every single Latina, African American, and Asian American Democratic Congresswoman currently serving.

 

Principal Responsibilities

 

The Manager, State Engagement and Development supports EMILY's List's ability to elect women by serving as the primary point of contact for candidates and partner organizations in targeted State Engagement and Development states. 

 

Specific Duties

 

  • Oversee the endorsement process in state Engagement and Development states;
  • Facilitate and execute the Choice Questionnaire process and approval, including writing endorsement requests;

·         Assist the Senior Director, State Engagement and Development in tracking electoral and recruitment opportunities with an eye to targeted pipeline development;

·         Serve as the primary point of contact for endorsed candidate campaigns in assigned states and other non-federal races as assigned;

·         Work with the Senior Director, State Engagement and Development to assess the start-ups of targeted campaigns, including their ability to identify and/or vet staff, set up initial plans, and working with the candidate to hone her skills;  

·         Build relationships with like-minded allies and party/caucus staff in assigned states;

·         Assist the Senior Director, State Engagement and Development as needed with strategic partnership communication and relationships nationwide;

·         Compile information about state and other non-federal races and candidates;

·         Provide recruitment, planning, logistical preparation and support for campaign trainings when needed;

·         Assist with the development of training materials and other candidate resource and tool development;

·         Deploy as a trainer when necessary;

·         Assist in management of data, analytics and institutional tracking of candidate, campaign, and other relevant state and local information;

  • Perform other duties as assigned.

 

Qualifications

The Manager, State Engagement and Development must have senior level state legislative campaign or other electoral experience.  The Manager must be organized; a strong planner; engender trust and confidence; and possess excellent verbal and written communications skills. Outstanding campaign technological skills are essential.  The Manager should be an innovative self-starter, able to work with a wide variety of people, and able to prioritize and handle a variety of projects.  Professional demeanor and appearance is required. A strong interest in electing pro-choice Democratic women to office is required. Training and/or public speaking experience is also important to this role. The Manager, State Engagement and Development must be comfortable speaking to large groups of people and willing to travel extensively.
