Research Coordinator
EMILY's List, the nation's largest financial resource for women candidates, is searching for a Research Coordinator to join our Research team. Throughout its 30 year history, the organization has recruited and trained over 9,000 women to run, worked to elect 110 pro-choice Democratic women to the House, 19 to the Senate, 11 governors, and over 700 women to state and local office. EMILY's List has also helped elect every single Latina, African American, and Asian American Democratic Congresswoman currently serving.
Principal Responsibilities
The Research Coordinator helps to elect pro-choice Democratic women by: presenting compelling evidence of the impact Democratic women have on building a sustainable, progressive America; providing critical information and insight on individual races and electoral trends; and ensuring that EMILY's List operates at all times at the highest levels of accuracy. The Research Coordinator's primary responsibilities will be to aid in short-term, rapid response projects for federal and gubernatorial teams and provide additional assistance for state and local research needs when necessary.
Specific Duties
· Lead research projects on candidates and craft materials used for communications and development, particularly prioritizing short-term rapid response projects to assist campaigns or internal EL purposes;
· Support individual candidates on an as-needed basis at the discretion of the Deputy Research Director;
· Help fulfill Department duties including stepping in for fact-checking and copy-editing needs when necessary;
· Monitor in-state news to distribute to staff:
- tracking trends, narratives, and breaking news related to federally targeted candidates in national, state, and local races;
- communicating these to press and digital teams;
· Track FEC filings, legislative calendars, and other external events, and communicate critical deadlines, results, and upcoming opportunities broadly with relevant EL teams as directed by the Research Director;
· Assist with any other assignments and tasks as requested by the Research Department;
· Serve as lunch hour back-up and break relief for front desk as needed;
· Perform other administrative duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- 1-2 years minimum of experience in a research capacity on a campaign(s);
- Experience in politics and/or advocacy, preferably in a research environment;
- Knowledge of Nexis, campaign finance databases;
- Excellent research skills and attention to detail;
- Strong writing and grammar skills;
- Ability to write during high-volume, fast-paced periods;
- Ability to write, edit, and fact-check with precision and calm during high-volume, fast-paced periods;
- Communications skills and ability to interact with campaigns across the country;
- Campaign or political experience preferred; commitment to women's leadership and impact on women and families a must;
- Experience using federal and state government databases and multiple other data sources;
- Proficiency with Microsoft excel and other programs to track and present data effectively a plus;
- Precise, organized, detail-oriented;
- Pro-active self-starter with a hunger to expand the EMILY's List community, win races, and build a sustainable, progressive America.
College degree and an interest in electing pro-choice Democratic women required.
This is a cycle hire position with an end date of 12/31/2016.
