Electoral Data Analyst
Environment America Action Fund needs a data analyst for our elections team.
Environment America Action Fund works to protect our environment and the places that make America great by helping to elect candidates who will stand up for the environment, and defeat politicians who place corporate profits ahead of environmental preservation and protection. To win elections for candidates that share these values, we need an individual to help us collect and analyze a range of voter file data, and targeting services. Since you're smart and strategic, you'll develop models, analyze election reports, and identify effective campaign strategies and opportunities for victory. You'll get to work on issues around the country: from local and regional issues, to analyzing national trends and campaigns.
You will work with our in-house field team, Work for Progress, which will deploy thousands of boots on the ground in 2016 and beyond for candidates that stand up for the environment.
Location: This position is based in Denver, CO or Washington, DC.
Responsibilities include:
· Design and produce regular reports before, during and after elections for use in strategic decision-making, informing voter targeting, and managing field programs.
· Provide written and verbal analysis to our leadership team.
Testing
· Design regular tests of techniques to improve the efficacy and efficiency of our field programs. Brainstorm new ideas for tests, such as: messaging to motivate infrequent voters to vote; the efficiency of repeated contacts with infrequent voters; and the use of text messaging in turning young people out to vote.
· Seek partnerships with other testing outfits like the Analyst Institute or with nonprofit partners.
Developing Technique
· Help create new techniques for voter persuasion, get out the vote operations, and voter registration using the results from testing.
· Use data driven best practices to assist staff with writing field scripts, designing literature, creating manuals, and running staff trainings.
Qualifications:
We're looking to hire someone with excellent math and statistics skills and a passion for making an impact on campaigns. Our ideal candidate has a few cycles of data experience, but we are also interested in someone that is fresh to the data world but who has a good head for numbers and likes campaigns. Also:
· The technical and political savvy to take this data and turn it in to victories.
· Previous experience with one or more campaigns
· Excellent mathematics, statistics, and/or social science research skills. Commitment to advancing one's abilities in statistics and social science.
· Proficiency in at least one of the following computer programming languages preferred: SQL, Python, R.
· Fluency working with NGP VAN voter contact tools.
· Must have communications ability to translate mathematical concepts into real-world narratives for campaign leadership, and be able to advise on management decisions and strategic choices for campaigns.
· Creativity in envisioning new approaches to using data to understand the world.
· Organizational ability to stay on top of numerous projects in a fast-paced environment.
