Communications Specialist

Position Description:

  • Develop and implement communications strategies for one or more campaigns
  • Write, edit and curate website and social media content
  • Plan and execute media events
  • Place stories in mainstream, independent, and online media sources
  • Write press advisories, releases, pitches and other materials for media
  • Create internal and external materials for campaigns, including talking points, fact sheets, PowerPoint presentations, etc.
  • Train spokespeople for political hearings and media events
  • Photograph campaign events
  • Create content for e-blasts
  • Collaborate with and support dynamic communications and campaign teams

Qualifications

·         Undergraduate degree in communications, public relations, journalism or related field and/or 3-5 years relevant experience; advanced training may substitute for some experience

  • Demonstrated ability to develop and implement strategic communications campaigns
  • Demonstrated ability to craft messages for multiple audiences

·         Experience in media relations, including writing media materials

  • Excellent oral and written communications skills
  • Experience working with social media and digital platforms, including Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Word Press, etc.
  • Experience with basic design of communications and outreach materials, including fliers/brochures, fact sheets, FAQs, etc. 
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Ability to anticipate needs and plan accordingly, coordinate complex activities, prioritize conflicting demands and meet deadlines with minimal supervision
  • Strong, demonstrated commitment to the needs and concerns of working families
  • Bilingual (written and conversational) in Spanish preferred but not required
  • Knowledge/experience with any of these items is a plus: Word Press, Adobe Creative Suite, SLR camera and/or video editing skills a plus
