MDLCC Spring Fellowship Description
The Montana Democratic Legislative Campaign Committee (MDLCC) works to build Democratic majorities in the Montana StateHouse and State Senate. Thanks to the MDLCC and our partners, Democrats have gained nine seats in the Montana Legislature in thelast four years, and are poised to gain even more in the 2016 cycle.
The MDLCC Fellowship is a 2-3 month long immersion program that addresses the skills needed to work on electoral campaigns inMontana and elsewhere. Fellows will learn valuable tools to be effective at fundraising, voter contact, volunteer recruitment andcommunications. Fellows will also be highly considered for a full-time, paid position as they become available for the 2016 Electioncycle.
The fellowship program will be designed as follows:
· Fellows will assist with the daily operations of MDLCC, including but not limited to thank you notes to donors, sponsorship calls for fundraisers, turnout calls for events, data mining, opposition research, data entry, letters-to-the editor, and opposition research.
· Fellows will learn valuable skills in the area of fundraising including planning details for fundraisers, learning to make sponsorship asks, and following up on pledges.
· Fellows will learn valuable skills in the area of communications, including training on writing press releases, general messaging, and learning how to plan a walk card and mail piece program for legislative candidates.
· When applicable, Fellows will assist in gathering and compiling valuable information on potential legislative recruits.
· Fellows will also assist by helping local legislative candidates with fundraising and canvassing when pertinent in conjunction with the MDLCC Candidate Services Director and Field Director.
· Fellows and their MDLCC supervisor will commit to setting aside a few hours each week to conduct training modules in the aforementioned areas. When possible, the MDLCC will enlist support from other MDP employees for more specialized training programs.
· Spring Fellows will assist in implementing an absentee confirmation program in January to assist with turnout in our targeted districts.
· Fellows will be invited to MDLCC trainings and events during their fellowship.
Applicants must be strong Democrats, excited to work long hour to help Democrats win. The position will be based in Helena, but remote work from other parts of Montana may be possible. Supporter housing and/or a stipend will be available for highly-qualified candidateswith prior volunteer or paid campaign experience.
