Protégete Program Director
Conservation Colorado (CC) is hiring a Program Director to spearhead Protégete: Our Air, Our Health. The Protégete Program Director oversees our work to elevate the voices and leadership of Latino communities on critical environmental issues facing Colorado and the nation. The ideal candidate will have effective relationships with Latino communities and leaders and experience managing community organizing teams and advocacy programs that recruit, train and mobilize Latino volunteers and leaders. The program is a partnership with Chispa, a national program of the League of Conservation Voters to ensure that Latino families and leaders have a strong voice and leadership in the fight against climate change. The Program Director will be part of an important shift in the environmental movement that is connecting the Latino conservationist culture to strategic opportunities to advocate for, and take action on, environmental issues related to climate change that are impacting our communities.
General Description:
Conservation Colorado works to protect Colorado's environment and quality of life by mobilizing people and electing conservation‐minded policy makers. We work closely with policy leaders, citizen activists, businesses, other conservation nonprofits and non-traditional allies, and have built a reputation as one of the leading conservation advocacy organizations in the region.
Responsibilities
The Protégete Program Director, based in Denver, Colorado, reports to the Organizing and Political Director and regularly coordinates with Chispa's Deputy Director, is responsible for the following:
• Set the strategic vision for Protégete;
• Develop, implement and evaluate campaigns that successfully recruit volunteers, build grassroots leaders and get the attention of decisions makers and media;
· Hire, train and manage a successful, motivated team and ensure they have the resources, needed to meet short and long-term goals;
· Develop partnerships with Latino organizations, leaders and policymakers;
· Work internally and with partners to implement a Spanish-language and Latino-focused communications strategy;
· Oversee administrative aspects of the program including narrative reports and financial monitoring and reporting;
· Ensure that Protegete program and staff are fully incorporated and integrated throughout the organization;
• Work with Senior Leadership to implement strategies that create inclusive working organization and conservation movement;
• Actively participate in achieving other organizational priorities as needed, including fundraising efforts.
Qualifications
We're seeking a strategic thinker & problem solver who is results-focused, highly-driven, possesses outstanding written & verbal communication skills, and is organized and meticulous. You should possess:
· A track record of cultivating strong relationships with and generating respect and trust from individuals and organizations;
· A "self-starter" attitude and internal motivation with the ability to work independently;
· A demonstrated commitment to meeting a high bar on a quick timeline and a history of getting things done even in the face of obstacles;
· Experience managing staff and fostering professional development;
· A passion for protecting Colorado's land, air, water, and people through citizen action;
· A genuine belief that empowered individuals are agents of change for their own communities;
· Experience working with racially and/or ethnically diverse communities;
· Spanish/English bilingual is required.
Knowledge and experience with the Colorado political environment is a plus, but not required.
Compensation and Benefits:
Compensation depends on experience and is highly competitive. Includes health/dental benefits, retirement with match, paid time off program, and sabbatical program.
