Americans for Responsible Solutions Seeks Communications Fellow
Americans for Responsible Solutions (ARS), the gun violence prevention organization founded by former Congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords and Navy combat veteran and retired NASA astronaut Captain Mark Kelly, seeks a Communications Fellow to support a growing communications operation.
Founded in 2013, ARS works to affect legislation, shape the national dialogue and reduce gun violence in our communities. ARS PAC works to elect candidates who show the political courage to stand up to the gun lobby, are passionate about preventing gun violence in our communities, and who commit to taking action once elected.
Primary Responsibilities
The Communications Fellow will assist the Communications team in promoting ARS' mission, principals, and work across a range of communications platforms, including internal communications, social media, and earned media.
Specific Duties
Monitor media coverage;
Support the development of ARS relationships with media by maintaining and expanding media contact databases;
Craft social media content;
Assist with communications and policy research;
Provide administrative support as necessary; and
Other duties as assigned.
Ideal candidates demonstrate excellent writing skills, are detail oriented, and have had at least one political internship or fellowship. Candidates with experience on Capitol Hill or on a campaign are preferred. A good sense of humor and a willingness to learn and work hard are a plus.
The position is based in Washington, DC. While hours and duration of the fellowship is negotiable, a commitment of at least 20 hours per week is required. A modest stipend will be provided, as well as the opportunity for academic credit.
