CALIFORNIA CALLS STRATEGIC COMMUNICATIONS COORDINATOR
POSITION OVERVIEW
California Calls is looking for a visual storyteller and new media expert to help take our online communications program to the next level and beyond. We're an alliance of community-based organizations around the state working to achieve real, lasting progressive policy reform. We break new ground everyday with our first-of-its-kind alliance and our state-of-the-art field operation. We're looking for a Strategic Communications Coordinator who can join our team and help connect and enhance our ground operation with dynamic digital organizing.
Who are we looking for? First, you've got to be a dynamic writer with a passion for the creative, who understands how to inspire and motivate all kinds of audiences. You must be able to create visual content that tells the story of California's Emerging Electorate - including poor and working class families, communities of color and people who represent the majority in our state but aren't politically active. You must be a new media expert with an understanding of current trends and strategies to effectively leverage the power of social media. And, since you're going to be our expert, you'll need to be comfortable taking the lead on projects and driving them to completion, using rigorous, metric-driven analysis to balance short-term tactical campaigns with long-term strategic projects. DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES
1. Develop, implement and maintain creative content and new media communications strategies to increase the effectiveness of campaigns that educate, engage and mobilize various
audiences across various policies.
2. Conceptualize and lead production of print-based organizing materials including managing vendors and consultants as needed.
3. Assist in development of strategic communication analysis and methodologies to impact worldview and engage a base of tens of thousands.
4. Manage and curate video, photographs, stories and other creative content at events, conferences and speaking engagements.
5. Develop and implement trainings in communications and technology for allied organizations, staff.
QUALIFICATIONS and SKILLS
- Background in and commitment to social justice work.
- Must have strong computing skills including, HTML, CSS, Wordpress, Facebook, Twitter, e-advocacy tools, Adobe Creative Suite, Excel, PowerPoint and Access.
- Must have strong analytical skills and excellent written and verbal communication and organizational skills.
- Must be able to produce high quality creative content.
- Demonstrated ability to set and achieve goals under deadlines.
- Demonstrated ability to work with a diversity of people, organizations, communities, and cultures.
- (Preferred) experience in community and/ or labor organizing.
- Bilingual (English/Spanish) a plus.
$55-68,000, depending on experience.
