Position Summary

Nebraska Appleseed is seeking a full-time Development Associate to coordinate the organization's individual giving and event fundraising efforts. The position is responsible for raising funds from individual contributors, building and strengthening relationships with donors, creating fundraising materials including thank-you letters, email and postal appeals, ensuring the integrity of donor records, providing administrative support to the development team, and other development related tasks as assigned. The position will also be responsible for planning and managing logistics for fundraising and supporter events including house parties, receptions, and the annual Good Apple Awards. The Development Associate will report to the Director of Development & Engagement but will work in a collaborative team environment with Appleseed's Development Team, Communications Team, and Field Team.


Responsibilities

  • Write and create fundraising materials including online and mail appeals, project proposals and reports, and other marketing or development copy as assigned.

  • Prepare and send timely thank you letters and receipts to donors.

  • Ensure accurate information is maintained and tracked in the donor database (CiviCRM) for individuals, organization, and event donors including donation history, contact information, acknowledgements, and communication preferences.

  • Produce and manage specialized mailing lists.

  • Plan and coordinate donor and supporter events including managing logistics, maintaining RSVP lists, managing vendors, assist in securing sponsorships, and other event duties.

  • Assist the Field Team and Development Team in connecting donors with ways to take action.

  • Assist and support a coordinated donor relations program to promote meaningful, donor-centric interactions between donors and Appleseed.

  • Keep current on fundraising best practices to ensure efficiency and effectiveness are maximized throughout the organization.

  • Other duties as assigned by the Director of Development & Engagement.


Qualifications

  • Excellent communications skills (written, verbal, and active listening).

  • Strong interpersonal skills and an ability to work with a range of personalities and skill levels to produce high quality results.

  • Self-starter who can develop plans, manage multiple projects simultaneously with careful attention to detail and accuracy while adhering to deadlines in a fast-paced environment.

  • Hard worker and able to work occasional evenings or weekends.

  • Supportive of Appleseed's mission and able to communicate the value of the mission to supporters.

  • Background or experience in fundraising and working with nonprofit advocacy organizations is desirable. Prior fundraising or grant writing experience is a plus, but is not a requirement.

  • Proficient technology skills with Microsoft Office, Google Apps, and Mac OS.

  • Experience with Adobe InDesign is a plus.

  • Experience with Constituent Relationship Management (CRM) fundraising software is a plus.

  • Fluency in Spanish a plus.

  • Bachelor's degree and/or 3 years experience in the nonprofit field preferred.
