Texas New ERA Center/Jobs with Justice is seeking an Executive Director.

Texas New ERA Center/Jobs with Justice (TX New ERA) is a newly-formed organization with the mission to unite a dynamic coalition of working families, people of faith, labor organizations, student groups and community allies through education, research, and action to further economic and social justice and enhance mutual support and democracy for all. We are looking for a first Executive Director to build a team and shape the work of the center.

Texas New ERA Center/Jobs with Justice is seeking an Executive Director.

 

Texas New ERA Center/Jobs with Justice (TX New ERA) is a newly-formed organization with the mission to unite a dynamic coalition of working families, people of faith, labor organizations, student groups and community allies through education, research, and action to further economic and social justice and enhance mutual support and democracy for all.

 

We are looking for a first Executive Director to build a team and shape the work of the center. The Center is currently involved with several projects which demand an experienced organizer and facilitator:

 

-Improving access to good, healthy foods and good jobs in the food deserts of the southern parts of Dallas.

-Staffing and overseeing Project Phoenix, a collaboration of local labor unions, district judges and the county probation office, along with Workforce Solutions of Greater Dallas to give young first-time, non-violent offenders a second chance by offering union apprenticeships leading to good family-sustaining jobs.

-Conducting research projects, such as surveying the public on worker and community issues, publishing reports on the findings of hearings, and analyzing research.

-Educating members and the public about worker rights issues and mobilizing in solidarity with labor actions and campaigns.

 

Position Summary

 

The Executive Director is responsible for directing daily operations as well as implementing the goals of the Center with the following responsibilities:

 

I.              Organizational Development and Leadership

>   Assist in development and implementation of organizational strategy under the guidance of the Board of Directors.

>   Deepen and maintain relationships with stakeholders, including Board members, coalition leaders, and allies.

>   Serve as the primary spokesperson for the organization and represent the organization to the media, coalition members, allied organizations, and the general public.

 

II.            Campaign and Project Development

>   Provide overall program guidance and strategic support to campaigns, including developing strategy, overseeing programs, and doing on-going evaluation.

 

III.          Fundraising and Financial Management

>   Develop and oversee fundraising plan.

>   Write grants and cultivate relationships with donors.

>   Develop and manage a yearly budget under the guidance of the Board of Directors.

>   Ensure compliance with state and federal laws.

 

The ideal candidate is energetic, creative, and visionary. This new Center needs an Executive Director with bold ideas and courage to lead projects, raise funds, and expand the organization with the support of the Board of Directors.

 

Qualifications

·      5+ years of union or community organizing experience;

·      3+ years' experience working in coalition with a broad array of organizations on issues of social and economic justice at the local level;

·      Self-directed and willing to work on multiple projects;

·      Budget preparation, management, and reporting skills;

·      Knowledge of fund-raising strategies;

·      Ability to motivate potential donors, volunteers, members, and coalition partners;

·      Strong written and verbal communication skills;

·      Ability to collaborate with and direct staff and partners;

·      Computer proficiency (database/spreadsheet, email, internet, word processing, social networking skills);

·      Reliable transportation and ability to travel locally;

·      Demonstrated experience building unity among diverse groups and in recruiting and mobilizing others to take action;

·      Demonstrated ability to develop and drive effective and creative programs and strategic campaigns, convene and facilitate meetings, and balance the interests of various stakeholders;

·      Excellent listening, interpersonal and problem solving skills;

·      Degree in relevant field a plus;

·      Spanish language proficiency strongly desired.

 

Terms of Employment: This is a full-time, salaried position with benefits. Position requires evening and weekend work and frequent local travel.

 

Salary: Salary depends on experience and qualifications.
