Planned Parenthood is the nation's leading sexual and reproductive health care provider and advocate. The Community Outreach Group is a part of Planned Parenthood, but a separate organization that supports Planned Parenthood with short-term staffing and large-scale advocacy campaigns.
General Description
Community Outreach Group is seeking an enthusiastic Regional Field Director to serve in Madison, Wisconsin. The Regional Field Director will facilitate a team of Field Organizers throughout the state in concert with the State Field Director to engage volunteers and supporters in Planned Parenthood of Wisconsin field programs, build and strengthen local leadership, and support the long-term goals of the organization within designated regions.
The Regional Field Director will assist the State Director in hiring and supervising Field Organizers who will recruit, train, and coordinate volunteers in order to engage communities about a host of issues including reproductive justice. The Regional Field Director will also engage in volunteer recruitment and management of supporters or constituent contact activities. The Regional Field Director will be assigned goals for their region, and will be responsible for supporting their team to reach those goals. Ideal candidates will be motivated to complete a specific program, but flexible enough to change tactics as needed.
Responsibilities
This is a mid-level role. In this position, you will have the opportunity to:
· Participate in the process of recruitment and hiring Field Organizers in multiple regions
· Participate in the on-boarding and training of new hires so that they understand the big-picture strategy of the campaign and their role in winning
· Supervise each organizer by setting clear goals, developing work plans, acting as a coach and mentor to ensure the organizer's development, and conducting regular check-ins and offering feedback.
· Work with field leadership to break overall regional goals down into individual organizer goals, develop timelines and work plans, and produce reports to tell the story of your team's progress.
· Participate in and lead campaign tactics such as phone banks, door-to-door canvasses, and community events such as house parties, town hall meetings, or street canvass teams.
· Recruit, train, and coordinate volunteers who will participate in campaign activities.
· Develop volunteer-led outreach teams.
· Conduct community outreach to generate public awareness and support for our issues.
· Develop relationships with key political players, opinion leaders, allied organizations and coalitions to build the base of support within the region.
Qualifications
Applicants for this position should bring the following knowledge, abilities, and attitude:
· Knowledge of and commitment to progressive causes
· Strong interpersonal skills, including comfort meeting and talking with new people
· Effective communicator face-to-face and in writing
· Familiar with movement building, grassroots organizing, and volunteer management,
· Ability to use, or learn to use data to set goals and measure progress
· Flexible and self-motivated to identify priorities and complete work without being micro-managed
· Prior organizing experience OR prior staff management experience
· A basic understanding of campaign strategy (demonstrated by the ability to articulate the goals, strategy, activities, and results of a campaign you worked on as an employee, intern or volunteer)
· Familiarity with core tactics of organizing, including: volunteer recruitment, volunteer management, staging canvasses, phone banking, one-on-one meetings, and organizational meetings
· Has set goals and deadlines for other people, and helped them meet those goals or deadlines
· Comfortable with technology, and can learn new tools quickly
· Willing and able to work a flexible schedule, including evenings and weekends
· Licensed driver with access to a vehicle
We especially encourage applications from people who bring some of these additional skills or experiences:
· Directly-related experience in the same type of campaign or program
· Has strong ties in the city in which you are applying to work
· Brings some knowledge of or experience in reproductive health issues
· Has lead trainings or facilitated workshops
· Has worked with or built coalitions
· Has experience administrating human resources
· Knows how to use the VAN voter database software (strongly preferred)
· Knows how to use Excel
· Knows how to use Google email, documents, etc.
There is no formal education requirement for this position.
Compensation
This is a full-time, exempt, mid-level position with the Community Outreach Group, with an annual base salary between $48,000 - $60,000 depending on skills, experience, and qualifications. Full-time exempt employees are also eligible for a cell phone reimbursement up to $75/month, and employer-paid medical, dental, and vision insurance.
