[jobsthatareLEFT] 2016 Election Canvass Director - Work for Progress

Work for Progress seeks Election Canvass Directors.  Canvass Directors will help us elect candidates who will fight to reverse global warming, get big money out of politics and help young people deal with the rising cost of college and student debt. Applicants should be friendly, outgoing, politically savvy, and creative. You will recruit and oversee a team of committed canvasser activists to have face to face conversation with voters in critical districts this summer and fall.

We know that elections are not the beginning or the end of social change activism. To create meaningful change, we need to build people power and run smart campaigns to influence elected and corporate decision-makers. But elections can help, especially when there is a big difference between the candidates on important issues.

For the 2016 election, Work For Progress will partner with Fair Share Action and Environment America Voter Action to help elect candidates who want to make a difference on issues like global warming and getting big money out of politics. We will launch close to 20 field offices to make a difference in the 2016 election. These offices will be in critical states like New Hampshire, Virginia, Florida, or Colorado. We are looking for Canvass Directors to manage these operations.

Apply to be a canvass director with Work for Progress and help us make a difference this fall.

The canvass director exercises independent judgment and discretion to:

·   Recruit a team of committed activist canvassers: To get out and talk to tens of thousands of voters, you need a team of committed canvasser activists. As a Director for one of our election offices, you will recruit dozens of people to have face-to-face conversations with voters at their homes. You will design a recruitment strategy, write and place ads, and interview and hire top candidates.

·   Manage a field plan: As you build your team, you will send your staff into the field to talk with targeted voters. Directors are responsible for creating and managing a plan that involves speaking with tens of thousands of specially identified voters in precincts around the office.

·   Manage & train your team of canvassers: You will need to train your team in the best practices for communicating with and motivating voters. Each day, you will hold training sessions in the office, and each week you will get out in the field, yourself, where you will train your staff hands-on.

·   Manage operations: You will need to manage all of the operations behind the scenes. You will track information we can use for more sophisticated targeting and planning. You will be responsible for running payroll, reimbursing office expenses, and all of the other logistics that go into running a big operation.

We will provide you with classroom and ongoing training so you will know everything to do the job, from how to run a staff recruitment campaign to how to manage and develop leaders in your office to how to work with advanced mapping and canvassing technology.

We are looking for people who are ready for a major challenge. You should be ready to:

·   Go where the fight is. We are looking for people who are flexible geographically and ready to move to work in one of our election offices.
