DIRECTOR OF COMMUNICATIONS

The Maryland Democratic Party seeks a Director of Communications to develop and manage external and internal communications programs. Externally, the Director will manage social media and email programs, develop electronic content, draft and edit press releases and op-eds, and prepare the MDP Chair and Executive Director for media appearances. Internally, the Director will develop clear, concise and engaging documents for MDP's Executive Committee, Central Committee members, and activists. This is a permanent and full time senior staff position, reporting to the Executive Director, based in Annapolis, Maryland, and available April 1. Salary is commensurate with experience, and a generous benefit package is available.

 

RESPONSIBILITIES:

·         Managing social media and email programs;

·         Producing electronic content, including blog posts, podcasts, and videos;

·         Drafting and editing press releases, op-eds, and other press materials;

·         Developing fact sheets, talking points, graphics and other materials as needed;

·         Preparing the Chair and Executive Director for public appearances;

·         Designing earned media strategy for our delegation to the Democratic National Convention;

·         Training elected officials, activists, surrogates, and staff; and

·         Other duties as assigned.

 

QUALIFICATIONS:

·         A B.A. or B.S. in government, political science, communications or a related field;

·         Three to five years of professional experience or three cycles of campaign experience;

·         Strong written and verbal communications skills;

·         Technical ability to produce podcasts, videos, and graphics;

·         Meticulous attention to detail, including outstanding follow up skills;

·         Ability to plan and manage time sensitive projects with competing needs;

·         Ability to multitask and manage time effectively;

·         Capacity and desire to work long hours in a campaign setting; and

·         A good sense of humor.
