About The Andrew Goodman Foundation
Our mission is to make young voices and votes a powerful force in our democracy. Through our Vote Everywhere program, we build a national network of student-led, college-backed, civic engagement initiatives. With our ongoing support and supervision, our students and university partners lead long-term, results-oriented, voter engagement, public policy, and social justice projects.
We're rooted in a powerful story from the past: Andrew Goodman was a 20-year old college student who joined Freedom Summer in 1964 to register African-Americans to vote. On his first day in Mississippi, June 21, 1964, the Ku Klux Klan murdered Andy, along with James Chaney and Michael Schwerner. Andy and his contemporaries were young Americans who joined a movement to take action against injustice. Andy's actions continue to inspire change around the world.
