The HUB has an outstanding opportunity for a Director.

The Director will be a University leader who provides overall leadership, supervision, and management of the Husky Union Building (HUB).  An integral part of the Division of Student Life, the Director will actively work in concert with student leaders and University staff to create and implement a creative and strategic vision that is consistent with the University, Student Life, and the HUB’s vision and values.  The position will maintain an affirming and supportive environment through advising, communication, strategic thinking, leadership opportunities, and education in order for students to take full advantage of their Husky Experience.

Related programs and services include: Facility Maintenance, Accounting, Student Organization Resource Center, Event Services, Student Activities, Games Area, Special Programs (Use of University Facilities, Alcohol Request Procedures), Student Legal Services, University Lost and Found, Associated Students of the University of Washington (ASUW), Graduate, Professional Student Senate (GPSS), and Registered Student Organizations (RSOs).

Student leadership and engagement remains central to the mission and vision of the HUB.

Duties and Responsibilities
1.     Provide operational and administrative supervision for 41 classified and professional full time staff and 80-110 student staff.
2.     Manage and supervise an overall business and financial operation in excess of $4.4 million.  Provide administrative and financial support services for ASUW and GPSS. Determine strategies to ensure long-term stability of the department. 
3.     Develop and implement strategic and comprehensive programs and services to meet the needs of the University community.
4.     Engage in regular assessment and inquiry of staff, programs, and services to determine current issues/needs and plan/revise accordingly.
5.     Prepare and submit annual budget requests to the Services and Activities Fee Committee (i.e., University’s student fee committee).
6.     Develop and implement facility and program fee structures.
7.     Develop, plan and coordinate a priority list of capital projects.  Develop plans for improvements, major repairs, and other capital needs.
8.     Develop and implement departmental guidelines, policies, and procedures.  Assist with the interpretation and implementation of University and departmental guidelines, policies, and procedures.
9.     Supervise the Use of University Facility process and related administrative staff. Chair the Use of University Facilities Committee.
10.     Coordinate maintenance, safety, and risk management prevention programs and activities for HUB programs and services.
11.     Manage relationships with Housing & Food Services (in relation to Husky Den Food Court) and Office of Real Estate (lease operations: bank, ATMs, hair salon, branch of University Bookstore).
12.     Collaborate with and advise ASUW and GPSS, the undergraduate and graduate/professional student governments.
13.     Advise and serve as an ex-officio member on the HUB Board of Representatives.  Engage the HUB Board on budget, policy and programmatic considerations.
14.     Oversee the management of the registration process for 870+ voluntary student organizations and their on-campus programs and events.
15.     Supervise the Staff Attorney and Director of Student Legal Services and the Adviser of the D Center (i.e., Disability and Deaf Community Center).
16.     Cultivate and sustain outreach to student leader alumni.
17.     Cultivate and sustain collaborative partnerships with University and Student Life departments (e.g., Student Veteran Life, Q Center, Health & Wellness, Housing & Food Services, First Year Programs, Kelly Ethnic Cultural Center, Recreational Sports Programs, University Police, and Fraternity & Sorority Life).
18.     Advise Student Life on trends, activities and interests of students.  Provide information on issues, programs, and services that affect student involvement and engagement.
19.     Consult with and provide assistance to other Student Life and campus colleagues on projects and assignments as needed.  Serve on Student Life and University committees. 
20.     Prepare and/or supervise the preparation of special and periodic reports. 
21.     Perform special assignments and related/other duties as assigned.

REQUIREMENTS:

•     A Master’s degree in college student personnel, higher education administration, or related field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience from which comparable knowledge and abilities can be acquired.
•     Candidates will have 7 or more years of demonstrated success in and knowledge of a) working with a diverse campus community, with particular emphasis on students and student leaders; b) all aspects of operational, financial and staff resource management; c) the organization, function, and purpose of student union and activity programs; c) building and cultivating an effective staff culture; d) the development, delivery and assessment of programs, facilities, and services; and e) mentoring students.
•     Skill in working independently to advance projects to completion.
•     Ability to navigate a campus culture.
•     Awareness and management of technological and operational systems related to the student union and activities.
•     Ability to manage and facilitate resolution of conflict situations.
•     Excellent oral and written communication skills.
•     Considerable knowledge or experience in student services, advising/counseling, and/or leadership development.

Equivalent education/experience will substitute for all minimum qualifications except when there are legal requirements, such as a license/certification/registration.

NOTE:  Work may include evenings and weekends.
