Caring Across Generations is searching for a creative, tech- and design-savvy communicator with significant online organizing and social media experience to join our growing team. As our Digital Strategist, you will continue to shape, build and engage an active online community working to change the national conversation around aging and caregiving by combatting aging stereotypes, highlighting the power of intergenerational connections, and fighting for the work of caregiving, mostly performed by family members and immigrant women and women of color, to be valued once and for all. In addition to leading and implementing our social media strategy, you will supervise our Digital Campaigns Coordinator to develop and execute compelling, state-based and national advocacy campaigns supporting our grassroots field network on legislation ranging from the nation's first social insurance program for long-term care to implementation of a historic Department of Labor home care rule that went into effect just this year.
You are ideally a compelling writer, conversation driver, new media guru, team player, political and pop-culture enthusiast, and have a deep interest in building a culture of sustainability and care to advance a progressive agenda. You can connect the dots between immigration reform, gender equality, racial and economic justice, and access to health care the growing care in subtle ways to continually grow, diversify and activate our online community. You will report to the Political Director with a dotted line to the Communications and Culture Change Director, and will have the opportunity to work alongside some of the leading organizers in the country.
Specific Responsibilities:
- Develop and execute high-impact social media and email strategies and campaigns, from ideation through planning, testing and implementation.
- Supervise the work of the Digital Campaigns Coordinator.
- Staff, monitor and manage social media platforms on a daily basis, including creating persuasive and highly engaging posts and content calendars that generate organic growth.
- Build our online community through tactics which could include, but are not limited to: developing a blogger cultivation and outreach strategy; setting up Facebook ads and monitoring Google Adwords; analyzing trends and metrics to inform new strategies; strategically engaging partners and allies; and other more creative and proven tactics.
- Develop and execute an online member cultivation strategy, with an eye towards bringing online members up the ladder of engagement, and focusing on identifying campaign storytellers, the creation of powerful user-generated content, and possibilities for online campaigns built around members' personal stories.
- Develop and execute strategies to increase our reach with key online audiences, which could include but not be limited to: identifying, recruiting and building relationships with new individuals, partner organizations, and influencers on various related and intersectional issue campaigns; organizing and leading digital forums; etc.
- Monitor advocacy and grassroots campaigns in our key issue areas and seek out exciting opportunities to campaign on these issues.
- Work with our partner organizations and grassroots organizers at the state and national level to craft strategic online plans; integrate online strategies into campaign plans; and create social media toolkits.
- Create graphics and assist with other design and multimedia production needs.
- Provide design, writing, strategy, and production support for other campaign work and projects as needed.
- Assist with rapid response efforts and strategic communications support as needs arise.
Qualifications:
- A commitment to the Caring Across Generations mission as a path toward progressive change.
- 3+ years experience as a digital strategist and demonstrated track record building and growing online communities.
- Experience managing other staff.
- Excellent written and oral communication skills. Ability to write quickly, persuasively and on deadline a must.
- Excellent project management skills.
- Ability and desire to collaborate and work well with colleagues at all levels in a high-impact, hard-working, driven campaign environment, and to work effectively as a team player in both a lead and support role.
- Entrepreneurial, self-motivated, organized, creative, innovative, and deadline-obsessed.
- Knowledgeable about the role new technologies play in movement-building and latest innovations in the digital storytelling space.
- HTML skills and some experience with Wordpress or a similar CMS.
- Experience tracking online metrics and leveraging insights to inform strategies.
- Photoshop proficiency and a good eye for design.
Bonus if you have:
- Multimedia production experience - including video, audio, photography, animation, etc.
- InDesign and/or Illustrator and graphic design expertise.
