[jobsthatareLEFT] Incandescent - Assistant to the Founder

Location: New York City

Type: Full Time

Min Experience: Entry Level

WHO WE ARE

Incandescent is a strategy consulting and venture development firm; we conduct research, advise leaders and develop our own ventures. As advisors, we serve as thought partners to CEOs of Fortune 500 companies (traditional management consulting), founders of early- and growth-stage ventures (taking equity in our client's venture), and to a handful of visionary leaders in social sector organizations (with clients such as The Rockefeller Foundation and The Acumen Fund).

Founded in 2013, we've been building a small team, slowly and carefully. Each team member plays an integral part in developing Incandescent as a firm that discovers better ways to create, build and run organizations.

ABOUT THE ROLE: ASSISTANT TO THE FOUNDER

We are looking for an unusual assistant, someone who can orchestrate the symphony that is a 3-year old start-up with bold ideas to transform how companies and people achieve their potential.  This job will be a strong learning and development experience with a significant amount of responsibility.

YOUR RESPONSIBILITIES WILL INCLUDE…

1. ADMINISTRATIVE AND TACTICAL SUPPORT. As the founder's assistant, you will manage the calendar and help him stay ahead of priorities. In doing so, you will communicate extensively with the internal team, external partners, and clients. The core of this work is getting above the transactional level of the work to think at a more strategic level as you negotiate the demands on the founder's time and the priorities of the business.

2. PROJECT MANAGEMENT AND COMMUNICATIONS. You will support the founder and chief of staff in moving a wide range of projects forward. A key part of your job is tracking the many balls in the air and maintaining organizational and data systems. You will also help to prepare documents, create visuals and PowerPoint decks, and help to maintain intellectual capital collection.

3. BUILDING INCANDESCENT! On such a small team, every member is an important part of building the systems, processes, and culture of this place. Your contributions to firm-building will help shape the future of Incandescent.

EMPATHETICYou enjoy helping others and love being part of a team.

A SKILLED COMMUNICATOR – You're both a great listener and an effective speaker and writer. You are confident and resourceful when reaching out to new people, and great at developing relationships with a wide range of people with different styles.

PASSIONATE ABOUT LEARNINGYou seek out direct feedback and love to invest in your personal development.

INTELLECTUALLY CURIOUS  You constantly look to understand the whys behind the different elements of your work.

DETAIL-ORIENTED You have and excellent organizational skills. Typos make you cringe, and you are quick to spot formatting and grammatical errors. You like creating structure in your work.

WHAT YOU BRING

No particular type of experience is a prerequisite, as the right candidate will be someone who can quickly learn to do things they've never done before. The right candidate is likely 1-3 years out of school, or could be in the process of changing careers.  An exceptional individual just leaving school could be qualified for the role, if (s)he can demonstrate that they've gained sufficient practical experience through extracurricular leadership roles and summer/part-time work to be as productive from the beginning as others who have more professional experience.

WHY THIS ROLE IS COMPELLING

Working directly with an extraordinary business thinker, you will experience first-hand what it means to lead a well-run, growing startup. You will be exposed to an unusually wide range of people and issues in the business and social sectors, the internal infrastructure and operations of a new organization, and innovative thinking and research.

A successful candidate will develop a broad set of professional skills, honing them to the level of excellence in a demanding and supportive environment. You will work with an accomplished and diverse team in which each individual is committed to rapid development of themselves and others. This role has high potential to evolve based on the particular strengths that you bring to the team.
