POSITION AVAILABLE: Program & Communications Manager-Position located in Sacramento or Los Angeles
REPORTS TO: Executive Director
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: Working under the direction of the Executive Director the Program and Communications Manager will address several policy areas- elections and civic engagement, campaign refinance reform, voting rights, and other democracy issues.
RESPONSIBILITIES: Program & Communications Manager is responsible for working with state and national Common Cause staff, board, and members; statewide and local coalitions; and key policy makers to advance Common Cause campaigns and policy work. Must have management experience with ability to strategically plan campaigns, work collaboratively, develop communications strategy and content, write and present to public audiences to engage our members, activists, and the public to support our goals. Strong background in policy areas of elections and civic engagement, campaign finance reform, voting rights and other democracy issues is a plus.
QUALIFICATIONS: 4-6 years of relevant policy or organizing experience required. Strong familiarity with Common Cause issues and commitment to our mission is required. Experience in political organizing or management of political strategy; strong organizational, interpersonal and communication skills, including ability to interact with public officials, leaders, activists, and the public; knowledge of political process, including understanding the connection between grassroots campaigns and the legislative process; strong analytical, writing, speaking, program management and advocacy skills, and fundraising preferred. Communications experience is necessary. Willingness to travel; strong computing and research skills desired. Working knowledge and proficiency with social media tools including Facebook and Twitter.
