Position Summary
Make It Work is a new, ambitious 501(c)(3) and 501(c)(4) campaign that aims to improve women's economic lives in the United States, to expand the organizing capacity necessary to advance women's equality, and to update the narrative around women, work, and families. Make It Work seeks to win on key policy issues (including child care, equal pay, paid family leave, and others) that will materially improve the lives of women, men, and families; build significantly more organizing capacity, both online and on the ground; create a campaign reflective of 21st century realities and sensibilities—by developing new spokespeople, narratives, and using culture as an important lever for change; and develop a pipeline of leaders, particularly women of color and low-income women, that will help to make sure that the faces and voices of the women's movement are representative of the women who are most impacted by these issues, and are representative of the diversity of American women.
The Make It Work Campaign seeks an experienced Organizing Manager to coordinate the field organizing efforts nationally and in the campaign's target states, to 1) Build demand among voters for our core set of issues; 2) Engage diverse constituencies in the campaign - particularly women of color and low-income communities; and 3) Ensure candidate accountability. The Organizing Manager will report to the Organizing and Political Director.
Essential Responsibilities and Tasks
- Manages the implementation of the campaign's national and state-based organizing strategy in close partnership with the Organizing and Political Director, the Make It Work team, state-based Field Directors, and consultant teams.
- Coordinates and tracks the organizing work plan, with a strong attention to detail and forward-thinking mindset.
- Builds partnerships and alliances with national and state-based partners, within the women's movement and broader progressive organizing field.
- Promotes a culture of rigor and metrics-based evaluation alongside qualitative data inside the campaign and with partners.
- Assesses potential campaign opportunities and targets.
- Integrates and manages the most up to date field and online organizing technology into the campaign.
- Manages and works closely with vendors and consultants.
- Other responsibilities and tasks as needed.
Qualifications:
- 3 - 5 years professional experience working as an organizer at both state and national levels with a focus on organizing diverse constituencies.
- Must be a self-starter with strong organizational skills. Detail oriented. Excellent written and oral communication skills.
- Experience and comfort with working with diverse constituencies. Commitment to gender and racial justice and social justice values. Familiarity with women's and social justice organizations and actors a plus.
- Experience in organizing around legislative and electoral efforts. Knowledge of the campaign's target policy issues a plus.
- A strong commitment to rigor and metrics-driven work, including using experimentation and to measure impact.
- Demonstrated ability to manage multiple complex projects, develop work plans and meet target goals and objectives.
- Desire to work in and foster a culture of high output, open communication, low ego, and no drama.
- Previous experience with voter and volunteer data systems as well as community organizing and leadership development is desirable.
- Significant travel required.
- Sense of humor a must.
Compensation is competitive and negotiable depending on background and experience, and includes a full benefits package.
