Team Overview
The Elected Leadership team is responsible for inspiring, developing and supporting our members to effectively pursue elected office as a path to help kids and their community. This position reports to the Senior Director of Campaign Development.
Position Overview:
The Manager of Candidate Fundraising Development is responsible for supporting the fundraising efforts of LEE members interested in pursuing elected leadership. This position will support a regional portfolio of candidates. In addition to providing candidates with fundraising support, this person will also be the point person on managing candidate call time trackers, finance plans and cash flow in conjunction with the campaign's staff and Manager of Candidate Development (MCD).
This Manager must have demonstrated campaign fundraising skills, call time management experience, an ability to build personal, trust-based relationships with diverse individuals, and must feel comfortable working and succeeding in entrepreneurial environments. This position will strategically assist LEE members who choose to pursue elected leadership with their campaigns by providing support in ways including, but not limited to: developing a call time program and tracking system, developing realistic goals and maintaining high quality fundraising tracking systems with campaigns, remotely training and staffing call time, working on message development one-on-one with candidates, and helping campaigns expand their lists and prospect new donors.
Position Location: Flexible (preferred locations: Washington, DC; Denver; Los Angeles; and San Francisco/Bay Area)
Responsibilities:
- Coach and preparing candidates and staff on call time
- Provide ongoing one-on-one call time staffing of 1.5 hours per week for each candidate, on an ongoing basis and as requested
- Assist MCDs, campaign staff and candidates with understanding basics of call time management, tracking, organization, goal setting and execution
- Go on site visits with MCDs to provide fundraising support, especially as it relates to setting up their fundraising operation and training staff
- Identify donor research and list building opportunities; provide campaigns with targeted lists to increase their donor base
- Train campaign staff in donor research
- Write and manage finance plans, help to track cash-flow with campaign managers
- Provide trainings internally to LEE staff to help build their understanding of campaign fundraising principles and techniques
- Assist in managing the day to day coordination of scheduling and tracking candidate call time
- Help draft fundraising communications
- Develop fundraising messages
- Create candidate prospectuses for donors
Requirements, Skills, Knowledge, Abilities & Competencies
- Minimum of 2 years of campaign experience
- Proven track record in campaign fundraising and call-time management
- High level of comfort on the phone with candidates and donors
- Strong oral and written communication skills
- Demonstrated ability to work with diverse communities
- A framework for working within campaign finance laws
- Ability to work with multiple candidates and complete multiple tasks
- Experience coaching others is a plus
- Deep passion for educational policy and alignment with LEE core values
- Previous affiliation and demonstrated success in a mission-driven environment is desired
- Willingness to travel and work weekends and evenings
- Ability to work as a team and in collaboration with other teams
- Ability to deeply understand a number of new local contexts
- Ability to maintain focus on execution during high-stress situations
- Comfortable working with remote teams when necessary
- Demonstrated results-oriented work ethic
