The Democratic Legislative Campaign Committee (DLCC) works to win state legislative seats and chambers for Democrats.

The DLCC's mission is to build and maintain winning, state-of-the-art campaign committees in all 50 states by providing campaign services through a continuing partnership with legislative leaders, professional staff, and supporters.  DLCC spending priorities are focused on legislative seats and chambers where we can impact Democratic majority status in the current election cycle. 

Position

The DLCC is seeking a Political Director to work in its political department. The Political Director will be assigned a set of states and work with in-state caucus campaign staff to develop successful legislative caucus campaign programs.

Political Directors at DLCC travel to an assigned set of states, and build relationships with state legislative leaders and a diverse set of in state allies. The ideal candidate thrives in a fast-paced environment, can quickly process and categorize large sets of information from states, and can juggle multiple priorities while traveling. Daily work is highly self-directed, in consultation with the National Political Director.

This position will report to the National Political Director. The position is based in Washington, DC  through the 2016 campaign cycle.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Create and manage political relationships in states with state legislative leaders and allied groups.
  • Advise state legislative leaders and caucus staff on path to Democratic majorities, by analyzing caucus campaign plan and spending.
  • Report political lay of the land to National Political Director and Executive Director
  • Advise on contributions to states. 
  • Work with caucuses to implement campaign best practices.
  • Identify fundraising opportunities in states.
  • Follow internal department procedures.
  • Significant travel is likely.

Ideal Qualifications:

  • At least three cycles of campaign experience.
  • At least two cycles managing staff.
  • Experience working with state legislative campaign staff is preferred.
  • Experience working directly with candidates.
  • Experience fundraising and managing a budget is preferred.
  • Outstanding relationship building and analytical skills.
  • Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and prioritize tasks appropriately.
  • Additional tasks as assigned.
