WHO WE ARE:
Plate of the Union (POTU) is a campaign to raise the voice of Americans who care about food and farm issues during this election season. The policies that shape our food system influence our health, our environment, and our economy. Together, we're calling on the next President to take bold action for a food system that rewards farmers and farming practices that protect our environment, that provides dignity and fair wages to workers, and ensures that all Americans have access to healthy and affordable food. POTU is a collaborative project of three non-profit organizations running a 501(C)(3) public awareness campaign with the goal of building a movement of engaged, activists to educate presidential candidates and their campaigns on these issues in 2016.
WHAT YOU'LL DO:
● Develop a statewide organizing plan that will shape the public discourse around food and farming during the election
● Build a powerful coalition with allied organizations and stakeholders such as farmers, students groups, food service workers, chefs, and scientists
● Organize large visibility events to amplify our message and gain media coverage, including a Food Truck Tour highlighting local chefs and food leaders in strategically important locations
● Cultivate a team of local leaders to continue this work for the long-term by building strong relationships with key allies, grasstops supporters and frontline communities
● Lead a grassroots field campaign using tactics including generating earned media, hosting town hall meetings, and online organizing
● Recruit, manage, and train volunteers
● Oversee a part-time staff member in the state (potentially)
● Work alongside some the leading advocacy organizations on food, environmental, and economic justice issues and receive the training to take your organizing skills to the next level
WHAT WE'RE LOOKING FOR:
● Demonstrated success building relationships with community leaders and developing shared goals
● Experience planning and managing large events
● Ability to build a large team and develop leaders to take on real responsibility
● Organizational skills necessary to coordinate a fast-paced campaign and manage logistics
● Strong racial & economic justice analysis
● Communication and writing skills that demonstrate an ability to advocate for an issue and appeal to a specific audience
● Previous experience with grassroots organizing, electoral campaigns, or issue advocacy
Salary: $36,000 annual salary (prorated for the time period you are hired)
Location: Multiple locations considered (final location to be determined), including: Raleigh, Durham, Chapel Hill, Charlotte, or Asheville

This is a full-time position, with excellent benefits, starting immediately through November 15, 2016. You must provide hardware – laptop and cell phone – and we will cover up to $50 a month for your cell phone bills. Some travel required. Some hours will happen in evenings and on weekends.
