Consumer Reports is unique in its role as a non-profit advocacy group, media company, and large, national community. As the Community Training Specialist, you will lead the development and execution of our community training program that leverages our members' unique skills, diversity, and energy to win key victories with and for consumers.
You'll work closely with the community, campaigns, and membership teams in the launch of our new community training program. We seek to empower our members with the skills they need to drive change in the marketplace, tackling issues as diverse as food safety, affordable healthcare, debt and credit reform, privacy and data tracking, corporate executive accountability, and more.
You will be responsible not only for training our community, but also building a program that is scalable so members and activists can recruit and train others to participate in the movement. In the end, we will have built a large-scale, grassroots political force ready, connected, and empowered to win big victories through coordinated efforts.
You'll train to win. But most importantly, you'll honor and continue an 80-year history of improving the health, safety, and well-being of American families.
Key Responsibilities:
● Contributes to the design, implementation, and execution of CR's Community Engagement Training Program that develops activists and members into leaders.
● Develops, organizes, manages, and facilitates staff-led, in-person, and virtual training sessions including regional and national summits.
● Builds meaningful relationships with activists and members, guide, and works closely with them as they become more engaged with CR.
● Monitors and evaluates community-led training sessions.
● Creates and updates training materials and resources as needed
● Identifies and assigns promising trained community members to campaign and membership teams.
● Evaluates and supports newly trained community activist trainers
● Suggests and implements test ideas for the Training Program.
● Collaborates with digital, organizing, and membership teams to harmonize the training program needs with these teams' goals and processes.
● Assists in the development of program objectives, goals, training ratings system, rewards, and incentives.
● Meets objectives for the number and quality of community activists and trainers recruited and trained.
● Meets objectives for skill development of community activist trainers during trainings
● Drafts quarterly and year-end training reports to ensure transparency of the training program, report potential innovations, and demonstrates progress towards meeting objectives.
● Supports the Manager, Community Mobilization in managing external vendors, training budget, contractors and utilizing learning management systems.
Qualifications:
● College degree or equivalent plus a minimum of 3-5 years of professional accomplishment in grassroots, labor, political, and issue campaigning.
● Demonstrated experience in training activists and volunteers to become leaders in advocacy and corporate campaigns.
● Active listening, superior written and oral communication skills.
● Outstanding multi-tasking ability, prioritization and project management skills.
● Outstanding facilitation, negotiation and conflict resolution capabilities.
● Proficient with Google Apps suite (Docs, Slides, Sheets, Drive, Gmail, etc.) and Microsoft Office products (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Visio), JIRA , prototyping and testing tools.
● Deep understanding of the digital landscape and learning management systems.
● Ability to communicate effectively and influence at all levels of the organization.
● Able to work flexible hours and be available for occasional domestic travel.
