Intended to convey the essential information and scope of work for this position, this job description is not meant to communicate a comprehensive list of responsibilities, duties or skills associated with the candidate or the role.

The Fairness Project seeks a talented, entrepreneurial, strategic and energetic Executive Director. The Executive Director will lead The Fairness Project as it closes out its first election cycle and looks to continue to scale its impact in the future. The Executive Director will be expected to build on existing programs and position the organization for success, from day-to-day management to the planning and execution of a national strategy. The preferred location for the position is in the San Francisco Bay Area, although the successful applicant will not necessarily be asked to relocate.

About The Fairness Project

With so many working people in America being left behind in an economy that is fundamentally stacked against them, The Fairness Project, a 501(c)(4), promotes and backs state- and city-based ballot initiative campaigns and raises national awareness of the need to bring economic fairness to tens of millions of people. The Fairness Project puts political power directly into the hands of voters to enact the economic improvements they want and need.

The Fairness Project, which operates with a multi-million dollar budget, provides funding directly to ballot initiative campaigns, but unlike many other organizations it goes beyond financial support to provide ongoing services that give these campaigns the cutting edge tools to build broad grassroots support and ensure success on Election Day. Services include digital outreach and social media, data and analytics, strategic planning and advice, opinion research, media support, and national campaign coordination.

In 2016, The Fairness Project is focusing on ballot initiative campaigns to raise the minimum wage and, in some states, require employers to provide paid sick leave. Increasing the minimum wage directly impacts the lives and well-being of millions of hard working Americans who deserve to earn a more livable wage and be able to take time off to care for themselves or a sick child or relative. The Fairness Project has or will play a significant role in helping 2016 campaigns in California, Washington, D.C., Arizona, Colorado, Maine, and Washington State.

In future campaign cycles, The Fairness Project will work with state- and city-level partners to:

·      Support more minimum wage measures in states and cities.

·      Research and develop initiatives across the country to address other issues of economic inequality. Examples include paid time off and family leave, fair workweeks, fair housing, and debt relief.

·      Make a fair economy a central issue in the national political dialogue.
