The Organization
Older Adults Technology Services (OATS) is an innovative New York City-based nonprofit with a mission to "harness the power of technology to change the way we age." Founded in 2004, OATS is a national leader in empowering older adults through the provision of free access to digital technologies, intensive technology training and support, a thriving online community, and the establishment of the country's first technology- themed community center for people aged 60 and older in Chelsea, Manhattan. OATS achieves extraordinary outcomes with older adults, improving their social engagement, health and well-being, financial security, and opportunities for social activism, creative expression, and life-long learning.
The Project
Over the next year, OATS will be a central player in a groundbreaking digital inclusion initiative in Queensbridge Houses - North America's largest public housing development. In partnership with the New York City Department for the Aging, OATS will deliver innovative training and program activities to older adults at the Queensbridge Houses and the local community.
The Position
This part-time, temporary position is a unique opportunity for a Spanish-speaking, energetic, results-oriented team member to make a difference in the quality of life for older adults in the area.
Working with the project leader and other OATS staff members, the outreach assistant will contribute in the following areas:
Community Engagement

Conduct a comprehensive outreach campaign to reach the seniors residing in the housing development and local community. May include door-knocking, home visits, information sessions, surveys, and telephone calls.

Represent OATS at appropriate meetings, presentations and community events, as needed.

Assist with marketing OATS classes and events, including passing out flyers and other promotional
materials.

Help build community partnerships.

Develop and execute a strategy to recruit seniors for OATS classes and programs.

Use the OATS curriculum and program approaches to deliver training and related events to seniors.

Maintain a database of older adults involved with the OATS program.

Document program successes.

Prepare and deliver written reports as required.

Provide program support as needed.
The Candidate

Fluent in Spanish
-
Enjoys engaging with older adults.

Culturally competent with the ability to successfully navigate a diverse community.

Highly-organized, detail-oriented and meticulous about quality, accuracy, and timeliness.

A clear and confident communicator. A good listener and clear speaker.

Customer service orientated, very responsive to and have genuine interest in the needs of others.

A good communicator with a mature and diplomatic manner.

Focused on our desired outcomes.

The ability to work part-time with a flexible schedule.
Ideally candidates will also have

Experience of grassroots/field campaigns, and social justice issues.

An affinity for consumer technology (PCs, tablets, smartphones, video gaming consoles).

Experience using Word, Excel and have data inputting.
