Democrat Justin Fairfax, a former federal prosecutor and 2013 attorney general candidate, is running for the Democratic nomination for Lieutenant Governor of Virginia in 2017. In 2013, Justin was a candidate for Attorney General of Virginia. In that election, Justin earned the endorsement of The Washington Post and more than forty-eight percent of the statewide primary vote. If elected in 2017, Justin Fairfax would be just the second African American to hold statewide elected office in modern times; in 1989 Virginia was the first state to elect an African American Governor since Reconstruction.
Justin is a graduate of Duke University, and served on its' Board of Directors. He is also a graduate of Columbia Law School, where he was a member of the Columbia Law Review. He served as an Assistant United States Attorney for the Eastern District of Virginia and was appointed to serve as the Deputy Coordinator of the Northern Virginia Human Trafficking Task Force. Justin also served as a federal law clerk to United States District Court Judge Gerald Bruce Lee of the Eastern District of Virginia. He is currently a member of the Litigation Practice at Venable, LLP in Northern Virginia.
