[jobsthatareLEFT] Change Corps Organizer

We want change. We want less gun violence. We want all women to have access to birth control and health care. We want a better education for all children. Yet on issue after issue, the forces of reaction are strong and they're pushing back. That's where Change Corps comes in.

Change Corps offers a three-step training program to help you launch your career in social change. Step one: You take part in an intensive classroom training to learn and practice your organizing skills. Step two: You work directly with a group such as Everytown for Gun Safety, MoveOn or the National Education Association and take on the NRA, defend women's rights, stand up for education, or work on other campaigns. Step three: We connect you with activist groups looking to hire full-time staff.

What will you work on?

Organizers attend an intensive classroom training and spend most of the year gaining hands-on field experience on issues like women's rights, gun violence, immigration reform, voting rights, marriage equality and money in politics. Organizers will work throughout the year in cities across the country, providing critical field support for partner groups leading the charge on these issues and many more.

Training

You'll learn the skills necessary to plan town hall meetings, build and work with coalitions united for a common cause, set up and speak at press conferences, recruit and train volunteers, collect petitions, direct a canvass office, and much more. You'll learn how to mobilize a community toward a common goal and build the kind of support and grassroots action that persuades decision-makers to stop obstructing change and embrace it instead. And you'll learn these skills from people like Bill McKibben of 350.org, Van Jones of CNN and Rebuild the Dream, and Cecile Richards of Planned Parenthood.

Pay and Benefits

The target annual compensation for this position is $26,000 in the first year. Change Corps offers a competitive benefits package. We also offer an excellent training program and opportunities for advancement.

Qualifications

Does social change get you fired up? We're looking for:

  • Young leaders who are ready to take on some of the biggest challenges of our day.
  • Bright, talented, passionate people with a strong work ethic.
  • Problem solvers who don't just see problems but envision creative solutions.
  • A strong commitment to working toward goals and getting results.
  • Outstanding verbal and written communication skills.
