[jobsthatareLEFT] Digital Intern | The Fairness Project | Washington, DC

Digital Intern

3-6 months with rolling admission and negotiable start-dates

Washington, DC

Are you tired of seeing politicians fail to get work done? Are you passionate about fighting for the working American? Do you want to figure out the best way to inspire people to act for working Americans where politicians have failed? Looking for an opportunity to bring fresh and creative ideas to a digital space?

You might be perfect to join our digital team as an intern. By the time you leave The Fairness Project, you'll have the PhD-equivalent in running digital political campaigns (sorry, no actual degrees conferred!).

In this internship, you will:

  • Work with the Digital Director to craft cutting-edge digital strategy to grow and expand The Fairness Project's digital footprint
  • Draft social media posts across multiple platforms
  • Write and code (we'll teach you!) engaging emails
  • Work with partner organizations on the ground to help them hit their digital goals
  • Monitor trends in social media and technology for opportunities to engage the public and for cool tactics to try
  • Run digital analytics reports to analyze and improve engagement and conversion rates
  • Perform other duties as needed

What we're looking for:

  • A commitment to fighting for working-class Americans
  • Keen attention to detail
  • Strong writing skills, and ability to toggle between different writing voices
  • HTML and graphic design experience is a plus, but not required
  • A good sense of humor (less Adam Sandler, more Aziz Ansari), and a positive attitude

Benefits:

  • We fight for employees, and we take that to heart. In a city that runs on unpaid interns, we're proud that all of our interns are paid!
  • Flexible work schedule -- let's talk about your schedule and our needs and figure something out.
  • We're happy to help you get academic credit as well, if needed.
  • A fun (but really, we are) and exciting team in a dog-friendly office, with an unlimited supply of coffee, tea, and draft cold brew.

To apply send a brief cover letter and resume to jobs@thefairnessproject.org with "Digital Intern" in the subject line. Applicants will be reviewed on a rolling basis. Please include your dates of availability in the cover letter.

About The Fairness Project: The Fairness Project is a national organization dedicated to bolstering ballot initiative campaigns and driving a national narrative to elevate issues of economic fairness. In 2016, The Fairness Project was engaged in nearly every significant campaign to raise the minimum wage - Arizona, California, Colorado, Maine, Washington and Washington, D.C.  Working with partner organizations, these efforts resulted in improved pay for eight million workers and paid sick leave for two million.

In future campaign cycles, The Fairness Project will work with state- and city-level partners to support more measures in states and cities across the country to address other issues of economic inequality. Examples may include minimum wage increases, paid time off and family leave, healthcare, and fair scheduling. Our organization is always striving to elevate a fair economy as a central issue in the national political dialogue.

On the digital team, we have tens of thousands of followers to engage, excite and test on all of the tried-and-true platforms (and a few new ones). We're all about cutting-edge strategy online and the skies the limits when it comes to creativity.
