Job Title: Director of Talent and Equity Grade: MGT I

Location: Washington, D.C.

Purpose: The Director will be a leader of SEIU's initiatives to acquire and retain talented staff, particularly for senior positions. The Director will ensure the application of effective tools, processes and resources to support the recruitment, retention and workforce planning activities to meet the goals of SEIU, including working in close coordination with SEIU's Racial Justice Center on becoming anti-racist organization and promoting organizational equity and inclusion inside SEIU's staff.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Coordinate SEIU's initiatives and systems for recruiting and retaining talented staff at every level of the organization, with direct responsibility to drive talent recruitment for senior positions
  • In coordination with the Racial Justice Center and the Human Resources Department, develop and drive programs and systems that promote an anti-racist analysis and organizational equity and inclusion at all levels of our staff.
  • Develop and drive programs and systems that ensure that SEIU promote and retain talented staff within and across Departments and Divisions, in coordination with the Human Resources Department and the Leadership in Action for Justice Department
  • Collaborate with senior leaders to integrate equity and inclusion strategy into workforce strategy.
  • Develop and lead an expanded candidate sourcing and outreach program for senior talent, including hiring and managing consultants and other external recruitment and equity resources
  • Develop and drive mentorship and fellowship programs in the union
  • Work with SEIU local unions and state councils to identify talented staff, internally and externally, who wish to work at the International Union
  • Report regularly to Officers on progress in recruiting, promoting and retaining staff, as well as metrics on our Organizational Equity and Inclusion efforts
  • Performs other duties as assigned in support of the Chief of Staff's office

Contacts:

All SEIU Staff and Departments, SEIU Officers, and local union leaders and staff, as directed.

Direction and Decision Making:

This position reports to the Chief of Staff and works independently.

Education and Experience:

A minimum of 10 years work in the labor movement or partner progressive or social justice organizations, and with a minimum of five (5) years in a leadership or management position. Graduation from an accredited four-year college or university with a bachelor's degree is preferred.

All candidates must be able to demonstrate the following knowledge, skills and abilities:

· Experience recruiting and managing staff at a senior level

· Success in and a demonstrated commitment to recruiting and/or developing a diverse and inclusive staff

· Knowledge of the labor movement and related movements

· Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing

· Ability to develop strategies, budgets and implement plans

· Ability to handle multiple priorities and meet established deadlines

· Ability to make presentations and conduct trainings

Physical Requirements:

Work is generally performed in an office setting, but may be required to work in other settings conducive to performing the tasks required to complete assignments. Travel and long and extended hours required.
