SEIU Texas (Service Employees International Union)

Job Title: Union Temporary Organizers-in-Training

Location: Positions are available in Houston, TX; El Paso, TX and Corpus Christi, TX.

SEIU Texas unites janitors, food service workers, hospital employees and county/municipal employees from across our state.

We are seeking energetic and passionate individuals interested in starting social justice careers in labor organizing.

For 100 years, SEIU has been helping workers stand up for their rights, fighting for dignity, respect and better conditions in workplaces and communities. With a membership 2.1 million strong, our diverse leaders and staff support workers as they speak out for good jobs and better lives for themselves and their families.

The SEIU Organizer-in-Training (OIT) Program is a 3-month training program. As an Organizer-in-Training with the SEIU, you will be assigned to campaigns to assist workers who are building unions in their workplaces. You will be trained on the fundamentals of union organizing and will have the opportunity to learn the skills needed to help workers build power in the workplace.

We are now hiring an organizers to join SEIU TX, dedicated to build power for working families in Texas.

KEY JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

? Work with diverse team and diverse group of workers in a right-to-work environment.

? Identify and develop leaders to take action/mobilize in their workplace, community, political and any external campaigns.

? Maintain and grow membership.

? Maintain accurate and detailed information on worksites and track individuals' info and assignments.

? Work with leaders and committees to educate, agitate and motivate people to action.

? Participate effectively on a team of organizers and researchers to plan and implement worker organizing & issue-driven community based social justice campaigns.

? Other duties that may not be included in this job description as required by organization

JOB REQUIREMENTS

? Commitment to social justice.

? Strong written and verbal communication skills.

? Ability to effectively plan and implement work and manage time, as part of a team and individually.

? Willingness to work long and irregular hours, including evenings and weekends.

? Experience and knowledge of computer programs is a plus (including word processing, desktop publishing, spreadsheet and database software).

? Driver's license and reliable car.

Bilingual in English/Spanish a plus
