Job Title: Director of Human Resources
Location: Los Angeles, CA
Responsibilities:
The Director of Human Resources manages the overall provision of Human Resources services and provides leadership on philosophy, strategy, design and implementation of talent management policies and programs for the entire organization. The Human Resources Director leads Human Resources practices and objectives that will cultivate the organizational values of SEIU Local 2015 that emphasizes empowerment, quality, productivity and standards, goal attainment, and the recruitment and ongoing development of a superior workforce. The Human Resources Director coordinates implementation of services, policies, and programs through Human Resources staff; reports to the Chief of Operations and serves on the executive management team and assists and advises organization managers about Human Resources issues.
Job Duties:
The major areas directed are:
• Talent management platform, including: recruiting strategy and solutions, driving talent reviews, succession planning, managing performance management and objective setting processes, organizational surveys and assessments.
• Organizational development;
• Employment and compliance to regulatory concerns;
• Employee orientation, development, training;
• Policy development and documentation;
• Employee Relations;
• Organization employee and community communication;
• Compensation and benefits administration;
• Employee safety, welfare, wellness and health;
• Employee services and counseling
Requirements:
• Knowledge of HR policies, labor law, health and other employment benefits such as FMLA, WC, COBRA, IRCA, FLSA, EEO, ERISA, HIPPA, employment law and practices.
• Ability to understand and articulate talent management process.
• Knowledge and experience in organizational planning, organization development, employee relations, safety, and training and development.
• Above average oral and written communication skills.
• Excellent interpersonal and coaching skills.
• Demonstrated ability to lead and develop Human Resources staff members.
• Demonstrated ability to serve as a successful participant on the executive management team that provides organization leadership and direction.
• Demonstrated ability to interact effectively with the organization Executive Board.
• Evidence of the practice of a high level of confidentiality.
• Excellent organizational skills.
• Willingness to work long and irregular hours and participate in all union wide activities.
• Willingness to travel and work in different locations for determined periods of time.
• Excellent computer skills in Microsoft Office including Outlook, Word, Excel, Access and PowerPoint.
• Commitment to social justice and building power for workers.
Education and Experience:
• Minimum of a Bachelor's degree (B.A. / B.S) in Human Resources or a related field is required.
• Ten plus years of progressive leadership experience in Human Resources positions.
• Specialized training in employment law, compensation, organizational planning, organization development, employee relations, safety, training, and preventive labor relations, preferred.
• Active affiliation with appropriate Human Resources networks (PHR) and organizations and ongoing community involvement, preferred.
• Possess ongoing affiliations with leaders in successful organizations that practice effective Human Resources Management.
Physical Requirements:
Work is generally performed in the office. Long and irregular hours required. Travel required.
Scope and Nature of Supervision:
The HR Director reports directly to the Chief of Operations.
