Cross-Campaign Technologist: Technology Team

MomsRising is hiring an experienced technologist with broad experience in front-end web work, the ability to speak clearly on technical topics, and strong project management skills to provide technical support and training to MomsRising campaigns across programs, implement cross-program member growth and fundraising initiatives, and manage our new Digital Asset Management system.
About MomsRising:
MomsRising (www.momsrising.org) is a virtual organization with staff working around the country. We are a growing online and on-the-ground multicultural organization mobilizing the grassroots to advocate for families on a variety of important issues. We help people voice their support for legislation and culture change that support mothers and families in this country.
Our core team of paid staff and volunteers work collaboratively to develop our strategies and campaigns. As a virtual organization, we use conference calls, IM, and email extensively to communicate, to create, and to care for each other. Our team enjoys a results-oriented work environment where the challenges and joys of balancing work, family, and personal time are understood.
Summary:
The Cross-Campaign Technologist will join MomsRising's cross-program Technology Team, providing technical assistance for issue-area teams that request help implementing online and on-the-ground campaigns, and training members of those teams on best practices across our technology infrastructure.
In addition, the Cross-Campaign Technologist will lead on the management and implementation of MomsRising's Digital Asset Management software, and coordinate or assist with cross-organizational communications, fundraising, and/or member growth initiatives as assigned.
The Cross-Campaign Technologist will do this work in concert with a Technology Team that oversees the MomsRising technology infrastructure, and organization-wide digital communications, fundraising, and member growth initiatives. This position provides a unique opportunity to work closely with a variety of issue-area campaign teams while advancing overall organizational goals.
This is a full-time position that is eligible for benefits. The Cross-Campaign Technologist will report to the Chief Technology Officer, and join a cross-program Technology Team with seven members.
Responsibilities:
1. Manage the release and ongoing usage of a third-party Digital Asset Management system at MomsRising (25%).
- Develop, with the Digital Communications Director, and in consultation with the Campaign Leadership & Strategy Team, meaningful taxonomies for digital assets.
- Develop policies and procedures for determining which past and future digital assets are added to the system, what the intake process is, and how resources are tagged with appropriate metadata.
- Train current and future staff, as appropriate, to use the Digital Asset Management system to archive and find digital assets.
- Serve as the Digital Asset Management system administrator.
2. Provide direct assistance, technical support, and technology training to Campaign staff to maximize the quality, effectiveness, and consistency of campaign work across the organization (50%).
- Pro-actively monitor advocacy campaigns, and address technical and design problems at the HTML and CSS level.
- Serve as the primary responder on the internal techhelp list - responding to or routing requests as appropriate.
- Conduct basic and advanced trainings on MomsRising's advocacy software - developing new training materials as appropriate.
- Contribute to and help organize MomsRising's internal Campaigner Tech Guide.
3. Lead or assist with the implementation of cross-program or issue area campaigns as assigned (25%).
- Load and send campaigns using MomsRising's advocacy toolkits.
- Participate in strategy, content development, and implementation for cross-program and rapid response campaigns related to member growth and fundraising initiatives, sometimes as the lead.
- Participate in strategy, content development, and implementation for emerging issues area campaigns.
- Provide backup strategy, content development, and implementation for issue area teams when requested and time allows.
4. Take other assignments as needed to further the mission of MomsRising.
Qualifications:
We're seeking candidates with significant front-end web experience (5 or more years), who can talk clearly about technology, exhibit strong project management skills, and have a track record of making (or helping others to make) consistent, high-quality web content that exhibits close attention to detail. You should have:
- High degree of comfort with creating and editing HTML and CSS.
- Experience with testing content across devices and browsers.
- Ability to create and optimize images for the web.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills.
- Track record of providing training and/or assistance with technology in response to requests.
- Able to work independently, but also be a good team player.
- At ease with technology and able to use technology effectively for organizing, writing, and online communication.
- Comfortable with a virtual office. Able to communicate effectively via IM, conference calls, and email.
- Ability and willingness to travel occasionally.
Ideal Candidate Would Have:
- Knowledge of ActionKit or similar organizing framework.
- Direct experience with online and/or on-the-ground organizing.
- Significant experience as a technology trainer.
- Ability to use JavaScript (jQuery specifically) to enhance pages.
- Experience creating social media memes.
The ability to speak Spanish is a plus, but not a requirement.
Working Conditions and Physical Demands: This is a virtual job with no physical office. This individual will work in his/her own home and communicate with coworkers through technology. This position's full-time hours are flexible with some evening and weekend hours required.
Must be able to work at a desk for blocks of time. Must be able to communicate verbally. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to use hands to move objects/operate keyboards, reach with hands and arms, speak and hear.
