Title: Community Organizer - Wind River Indian Reservation
Description: The Community Organizer - Wind River Indian Reservation will work with the Field & Political Director to implement the WDP's field and constituency outreach plans to the Wind River Indian Reservation. This position will be the primary contact between the Winder River Indian Reservation and the Wyoming Democratic Party, working to strengthen and build intentional relationships between the two.
Time: Full-time (temporary)
Salary: $2,750 per month (includes health and cellphone stipends)
Responsibilities:
Develop and execute an effective organizing and outreach plan in coordination with the Field & Political Director to local leaders, activists, and allied organizations on the Wind River Indian Reservation.
Collaborate with local leaders, activists, and allied organizations to develop and implement programs which strengthen the WDP's presence on the Wind River Indian Reservation.
Recruit local grassroots leaders and activists.
Build and maintain relationships with local leaders, activists, Fremont County Democratic Party members, and allied organizations.
Develop and maintain accurate community leader and volunteer records.
Represent the WDP at community events.
Maintain calendar of community events
Work with the Field & Political Director to manage and enhance the voter file and activist database.
Train and engage volunteers in opportunities to engage diverse communities.
Prepare regular progress reports for the Field & Political Director, Executive Director, and WDP leadership.
Increase the number of precinct level organizers, neighborhood leaders, and registered voters while building party membership on the Wind River Indian Reservation.
Organize WDP events to educate voters, raise money, and promote volunteer opportunities.
Work with allied organizations for voter turnout and Democratic initiatives.
Organize and host a Native Advocacy Summit with support from local leaders, activists, and allied organizations at the end of the Summer 2017 on the Wind River Indian Reservation.
Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
A commitment to the goals and ideals of the Wyoming Democratic Party.
Must have the ability and commitment to relate successfully to individuals of all races, nationalities, religions, genders, sexual orientations, income levels, ages, educational backgrounds, and occupational groups.
Previous organizing experience with a campaign, state party, membership organization, or nonprofit is essential.
Extensive in-state travel and ability to work evenings and weekends required; reliable personal vehicle to use for statewide travel required.
Valid US Driver's License and reliable vehicle required.
Computer proficiency with online databases, Microsoft word and excel, and Google Docs.
Strong organizational and time management skills with the ability to meet goals and deadlines while working independently.
Strong verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills necessary.
