Rebecca Rhynhart, who surprised the Philadelphia political establishment in May by winning the Democratic nomination for Controller of the City of Philadelphia, is hiring a campaign finance director for the November 2017 general election campaign. Despite having never run for office before and no support from the political establishment, Rebecca won the Democratic primary with 58% of the vote.
The Philadelphia Daily News said in its endorsement that "Rhynhart, who served as the city's budget director and chief administrative officer, will not only bring financial expertise, but an independence from same-old-party politics that dog so many elected in this town." 5/16/2017
As Controller, Rebecca would serve as the chief financial watchdog responsible for auditing all of Philadelphia city government. This office would be a continuation and progression of her government service that began in 2008 as City Treasurer of Philadelphia and continued as Budget Director under Mayor Michael Nutter, and then as Chief Administrative Officer in the Kenney Administration, where she played a critical role in improving the efficiency and effectiveness across Philadelphia city government.
