Research and Tracking Assistant – Based in DC
Brass Tactics is seeking an experienced campaign staffer with at least one full cycle of candidate tracking experience or one full cycle of opposition research experience, for an earned media advocacy campaign to protect our progress on climate change and environmental protections. The Research and Tracking Assistant will work independently as well as with a management team and with national and local organizations to research, identify, document and cover fundraising and event schedules. The mission is to convince public officials to limit and eventually stop any effort to diminish our progress on fighting climate change and promoting clean energy. The Research and Tracking Assistant is an important part of a team working to pursue this mission.
The Research and Tracking Assistant will be responsible for identifying all public and fundraising events for priority targets. This will include maintaining a well-organized event calendar, building and monitoring a comprehensive source list, communicating information pertaining to new events and updates as they are identified, covering and capturing video of targeted events, and building and maintaining relationships with office staff and events managers.
The Research and Tracking Assistant will be based in Washington, D.C. and require approximately 25 – 50% travel. Candidates must be able to work as part of a team but also work remotely and independently, and travel on very short notice.
This is a full-time salaried position from late June, 2017 through the end of September, 2017. The position requires the Research and Tracking Assistant to work long hours on an irregular schedule that includes evening hours and weekend hours and often on short notice. The Research and Tracking Assistant must possess a valid driver's license with a clean driving record and capable of using a rental car during required travel.
Salary is commensurate with experience and in the range of $3,500 per month and includes health insurance benefits. All project related travel costs are paid for.
Job Responsibilities
· Research, identify, and document priority targets' public and fundraising schedules;
· Gather empirical information "on-the-ground" in priority areas to inform future events;
· Maintain a sharable event calendar for team access;
· Update event calendar in real time;
· Build and monitor a comprehensive event source list;
· Communicate newly identified events and updates in timely fashion to campaign team;
· Cover and film targeted events in various states and Washington, D.C.;
· Bring a positive, solutions-oriented approach to all facets of the work program;
· Represent the campaign with professionalism and ethical conduct; and
· Work with the Research Director, the Events Director, and the Campaign Director to develop and implement best practices.
Reporting
The Research and Tracking Assistant will report directly to the Research Director.
Qualifications
• At least one cycle in role of candidate tracker or one cycle of opposition research;
• Prior experience working on climate change or environmental related issues is preferred;
• Well organized with a meticulous attention to detail;
• Ability to strategically plan and execute tracking assignments;
• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills;
• Videography and/or video editing experience preferred;
• Positive attitude and personality;
• An ability to respond and act quickly on short notice in less than ideal circumstances;
• Perseverance in the face of difficult challenges;
• Willingness to try new tactics and reinvent the playbook when things aren't working;
• Demonstrated success in metrics driven jobs;
• Disciplined in meeting deadlines even on tight timelines;
• Experience working in diverse communities;
• Strong commitment to promoting action to combat climate change;
• Ability to work with urgency and adapt to a fast-moving environment;
• Ability to work on-the-move without a physical office;
• Must have valid driver's license;
• Must have access to working laptop computer that has WiFi compatibility; and
• Willingness and availability to work long hours with irregular weekday and weekend hours as well as work on short notice.
