About FairVote Minnesota

FairVote Minnesota is committed to building a more inclusive and representative democracy by supporting the passage and implementation of Ranked Choice Voting at both the municipal and state level in Minnesota. The bitter and rancorous political divide never has been more acute. The very successful 2017 Minneapolis and St. Paul elections proved the power of Ranked Choice Voting, which allows voters to rank candidates in order of their preference, to give voters more choice, increase the diversity of candidates, engage more voters, make elections more civil and focused on issues, and elect winners with broad popular support. Now is the time to continue to expand RCV at a local level and to advance this reform statewide as an antidote to growing polarization and voter disengagement created by our winner-take-all elections.

In 2018, FairVote Minnesota will work to pass local options legislation so that all cities can decide whether or not they'd like to adopt RCV.  We will be focusing on statewide races – including the gubernatorial election – and encouraging statewide candidates to commit to advancing Ranked Choice Voting. And as some of the most politically engaged people head to caucuses and conventions, we will be working to mobilize attendees to take action on this issue.  We also will be working with cities exploring this reform, activating residents on the ground to engage with their local officials and enact RCV. Our goal is to usher in RCV in at least two more cities during 2018.
