IMPLEMENT RCV
Field Organizer (s)
Implement Ranked Choice Voting (RCV) is a project of the League of Women Voters of Maine (LWVME) in partnership with Maine Citizens for Clean Elections (MCCE). This newly launched "Democracy Partnership" is an exciting milestone in a collaboration between organizations that together represent over 100 years working for more representative democracy at all levels. This new project focusing on the smooth and successful implementation of RCV is an extension of decades of work improving government and engaging citizens in the decisions that impact our lives.
Implement RCV will be launched in January 2018. The goal of the project is to optimize the experience of candidates, voters, and opinion-shapers during the 2018 election cycle so that the new system will become ingrained as a valued extension of Maine's rich and unique heritage of representative democracy. The plan will deepen voters' understanding of RCV in advance of their first use of the system, while also inoculating the new law against criticisms, snags, or limitations that may surface. The Implement RCV project will train community ambassadors to educate the public on the benefits of ranked choice voting, deliver presentations to groups, schools and organizations at communities across the state, engage directly with town clerks and candidates, and lay the groundwork for RCV to live up to its full potential of enhancing democracy at the state level.
Field Organizers
The Organizers will work extensively with hundreds of volunteers who have a track record of supporting RCV in Maine over the last two years. The Organizers will serve as the face of RCV implementation to supporters across the state, and will engage new and existing supporters in ensuring the success of RCV in their communities. Each organizer will work in one of Maine's two Congressional Districts. The Organizers will report to the Senior Project Manager.
The Organizers will:
- Reach volunteer recruitment goals and mobilize and train volunteers to participate in voter contact and community events
- Recruit, train and supervise new volunteer leaders that can help implement the field programs.
- Implement field plans, maintain up-to-date tracking systems, and evaluate results.
- Plan and manage room conversation events.
- Reach supporter identification goals.
- Ensure effective outreach to constituencies and organizations with a specified geographic area
